John J. Buster was born about 1811 in Buckingham Co., VirginiaG.4,5
     John married Jane Elizabeth Thomas about 1834 in Charlotte Co., VirginiaG.6,7,8
     John appeared on the 1840 Federal Census of Charlotte Co., VirginiaG, with a household consisting of one male under age 5 (unknown), and one age 20 to 30 (himself), two females under age 5 (daughters Frances and Mary), one age 5 to 10 (Elizabeth), and one age 20 to 30 (wife Jane), and one age 70 to 80 (unknown). There were also eight slaves listed.9
     John and Jane appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Charlotte Co., VirginiaG, enumerated 27 Sep 1850. Their children Elizabeth, Frances, Mary, John, William, and Ann were listed as living with them.1
     John and Jane moved to Halifax Co.G before 1860.
     John and Jane appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Halifax Co., VirginiaG, enumerated 21 Aug 1860, reporting no real estate, but personal estate of $6,110. Their children Frances, Mary, John, William, Ann, and Samuel were listed as living with them.10
     He was a planter.11,12
     No further record of either John or Jane has been found. It appears that both died before 1870, though no record of their deaths has been found either.

Jane Elizabeth Thomas was born about 1809 in Charlotte Co., VirginiaG.4,5
     Jane married John J. Buster about 1834 in Charlotte Co., VirginiaG.6,7,8
     She was probably the female age 20 to 30 listed in the household of her husband, John J. Buster, in the 1840 Federal Census of Charlotte Co., VirginiaG.9
     Jane and John appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Charlotte Co., VirginiaG, enumerated 27 Sep 1850. Their children Elizabeth, Frances, Mary, John, William, and Ann were listed as living with them.10
     Jane and John moved to Halifax Co.G before 1860.

Bettie Leigh Canada was born on 12 May 1868 in Halifax Co., VirginiaG.4,5,6
     She appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Roanoke, Halifax Co., VirginiaG, in the household of her mother, Ellen Pocahontas Morgan. Her father, Henry Harrison Canada, was enumerated the same day, 13 households away. It would appear they are living separately, but it may have been an error by the enumerator.11,12
     She appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Roanoke, Halifax Co., Virginia, G in the household of her parents, Henry Harrison Canada and Ellen Pocahontas Morgan.13
     Bettie married Henry Lacy Britton, son of William Edward Britton and Frances A. Buster, about 1888 in Staunton Hill, Halifax Co., VirginiaG.7,8,9
     Bettie and Henry appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Danville, Virginia, at 512 Peach St. G, enumerated 4 Jun 1900, reporting they rented their home. Their children Annie, Henry, Bettie, Sarah, and Mable were listed as living with them, as was Kenneth Thornton, a locomotive fireman, who was listed as a boarder.14
     Bettie and Henry appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Danville, Danville Co., Virginia, at 414 Plum St. G, enumerated 23 Apr 1910, reporting they rented their home. Their children Henry, Bettie, Sarah, Mable, Cecille, and Hughes were listed as living with them, as were J. B. and H. I. Lester, both railroad brakemen, who were listed as boarders.15
     Bettie and Henry appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Richmond, Virginia, at 516 W 28th St. G, enumerated 10 Jan 1920, reporting they rented their home. Their children Henry, Mable, Cecille, and Hughes were listed as living with them, as were their widowed daughter Annie and her children Benton and Marion Shields.16
     Bettie and Henry appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Richmond, Virginia, at 413 West Twenty Fourth St. G, enumerated 10 Apr 1930, reporting they owned a home valued at $5,000, and owned a radio. Their daughter Annie was listed as living with them, with her children Benton and Marion Shields.17
     Her husband died on 6 Apr 1935 in Richmond, VirginiaG.18
     Bettie appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Richmond, Richmond City Co., Virginia, at 413 West 24th St. G, enumerated 11 Apr 1940, reporting she owned a home valued at $5,000, and that they had lived in the same house in 1935. Her daughters Annie and Mable, Annie's daughter Marion, Mabel's husband Richard Owen, and their children Richard and Mary, were listed as living with her.19
     Bettie died on 24 Jun 1940 in Richmond, VirginiaG, at age 72.10 She was buried on 26 Jun 1940 in Riverview Cemetery, Richmond, VirginiaG.10
