     Her father apparently died before 1850, when Sarah was about 15 years old.11,12
     She appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Halifax Co., VirginiaG, in the household of her mother, Harriett Johannet Flora.11
     Sarah married about 1857 Samuel E. Webster, son of James A. Webster and Sarah, and brother of the woman her brother William would marry about nine years later.7,8,9
     Sarah and Samuel appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Halifax Courthouse, Halifax Co., VirginiaG, enumerated 11 Jun 1860, reporting no real estate, but personal estate of $215. Their son Charles was listed as living with them, as were John F. Lundrum, age 26, and Thomas J. Ragland, age 31, both carpenters. His parents and his sisters were apparently living close by as they appear as the previous household on the census record.13
     Sarah and Samuel appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Halifax Courthouse, Halifax Co., VirginiaG, enumerated 23 Jun 1870, reporting real estate valued at $500 and personal estate of $100. Their children Charles, Margaret, Seddon, and Henry were listed as living with them, as was her mother.14
     Sarah and Samuel appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Halifax Co., Virginia G, enumerated 1 Jun 1880. Their children Seddon and Edna were listed as living with them, as was her mother. Their son Charles and his wife and infant son were apparently living close by as they were listed next on the census record.15
     Sarah and Samuel appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of South Boston, Halifax Co., Virginia G, enumerated 1 Jun 1900, reporting that they owned their home, free of mortgage.16
     Her husband died in 1907.17
     Sarah appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of South Boston, Halifax Co., Virginia, G in the household of Margaret and Joseph W. Lee, her daughter and her husband.18
     Sarah died on 24 Aug 1915 in South Boston, Halifax Co., VirginiaG, at age 80.10 She was buried on 25 Aug 1915 in South BostonG.10

Narrative:

Melcajah R. Ferrell was born about 1841 in VirginiaG.4,5
     His father apparently died before 1850, when Melcajah was about 9 years old.7,8
     He appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Halifax Co., VirginiaG, in the household of his mother, Harriett Johannet Flora.7
     Melcajah appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Halifax Co., VirginiaG, in the household of Thomas Fox, a cabinet maker who he was probably working for.9
     He was a cabinet maker before the War.10
     Melcajah enlisted as a private in Capt. J. Grammer Jr.'s company, Montague's Battalion at Halifax Courthouse, VirginiaG, on 24 Apr 1861. That battalion was consolidated with other units 1 Dec 1861, becoming Company A, 53rd Virginia Infantry.11,12
     He was wounded at the battle of Malvern Hill, 1 Jul 1862, near Richmond. He was admitted to General Hospital No. 21, in Richmond, the next day. He was given a 30-day furlough on July 5.13 He died 23 Jun 1863 in the hospital at Culpeper CourthouseG. Cause of death is not stated in the record, but this was three months before the battle there, so it may have been from disease rather than from wounds in battle.6
     Melcajah died on 23 Jun 1863 in Culpeper Courthouse, VirginiaG, at age ~22.6
