Virginia Maxine Adkins was born on 27 Jun 1927 in Kenova, West VirginiaG.4,5,6
     She appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Wayne Co., West Virginia, G in the household of her parents, Willie Adkins and Rebecca Wilson.16
     Her mother died on 21 Oct 1931, when Virginia was 4 years old.17
     She appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Wayne Co., West Virginia G, in the household of her father and stepmother, Eva Spence.18
     Virginia and Virgil Issac Pitmann, son of Marion Seal Pittman and Minta Kuhn, obtained a license to marry on 18 Dec 1942 in Wayne Co., OhioG. However it appears the marriage was never formalized. According to the family story, her father discovered the planned marriage and put an end to it.19,20,21
     Virginia married William Henry Morris, son of LeRoy Morris and Zenie Daugherty, on 22 May 1944 in Wooster, Wayne Co., OhioG, with O. C. Franks, justice of the peace officiating.3
     She was employed by Ohio Boxboard at the time of her marriage.3
     William filed for divorce from Virginia on 28 Apr 1949 in Wayne Co., OhioG, which was granted the following year.7
     Virginia's children were adopted on 25 Jun 1949 in Wayne Co., OhioG, by Gerald Crombie McWilliams and Margaret Hazel Morris, her ex-husband's aunt and her husband.22
     Virginia married second William Hopkins, son of Jerry Hopkins and Sadie Rowe, on 25 Jan 1950 in Richland Co., OhioG.8,9,10
     Virginia and William appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of Mansfield, Richland Co., Ohio G, reporting they lived in a home that was not on a farm.

Narrative:

John William Adkins was born on 20 Mar 1896 in Webville, Laurence Co., KentuckyG.4,5,6,7 He seems to have generally gone by a diminutive of his middle name, Willie, even on legal documents.13,14,15
     He appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Lawrence Co., Kentucky G, in the household of his parents, Hiram Adkins and Delilah Young.16
     He was working on the home farm at age 15.17 He appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Lawrence Co., Kentucky G, in the household of his parents.18
     John married first Rebecca Wilson, daughter of Joseph Wilson and Elizabeth Hampton, on 7 Jan 1917 in Genoa, Wayne Co., West VirginiaG, with Rev. W. S. Walker officiating.8,9
     Willie and Rebecca claimed to be age 21 and 18 respectively when they applied for a marriage license when he was actually 20 and she was 13. Presumably they did so to avoid getting the consent of their parents since they were both minors.13
     John and Rebecca moved to OhioG in Mar 1917 after their marriage. He registered for the draft for World War I on 5 Jun 1917, while living at Delaware, OhioG, reporting he was employed as a farmer, in business for himself.14
     Willie and Rebecca appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Wayne Co., West Virginia G, enumerated 2 May 1930, reporting that they were renting their farm, and did not own a radio. Their children William, Ray, and Virginia were listed as living with them.15
     His wife died on 21 Oct 1931.19
     John married second Eva Spence, daughter of Henry Spence and Exer Murray.10,11,12
     John and Eva appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Wayne Co., West Virginia G, enumerated 13 Apr 1940, reporting they were renting their home, for $4 per month. His children William, Ray, and Virginia were listed as living with them.10
     He was a laborer. He was working with casting insulators in 1930. In 1940 he reported he was working for an insulator company and had worked 40 hours the last week of March and 30 weeks the prior year, earning $600.20,21,10
     John registered for the draft for World War II on 14 Feb 1942, while living at Rittman, Wayne Co., OhioG, reporting he was employed by B & W, in Barkerton, Ohio.3
     John and Eva moved to OhioG by 1950. They appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of Norton, Summit Co., Ohio G, enumerated 1 Apr 1950, reporting they lived in a home that was not on a farm.22
     By 1950 he was working in construction, building concrete forms, for a boiler manufacturing company, reporting in the 1950 census he had worked 40 hours the prior week.23
     John died on 24 Jun 1973 in Ironton, Lawrence Co., OhioG, at age 77.12 He was buried on 27 Jun 1973 in Cyrus Cemetery, Cyrus, West VirginiaG.12

Rebecca Wilson was born on 3 Mar 1903 in Genoa, West VirginiaG.4,5,6
     She appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Wayne Co., West Virginia, G in the household of her parents, Joseph Wilson and Elizabeth Hampton.9
     Rebecca married John William Adkins, son of Hiram Adkins and Delilah Young, on 7 Jan 1917 in Genoa, Wayne Co., West VirginiaG, with Rev. W. S. Walker officiating.7,8
