Narrative:

Marguerite Laura Huggitt was born on 22 Jun 1916 in New Orleans, LouisianaG.4,5,6
     She moved to CaliforniaG with her parents before 1920. She appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co., California, G in the household of her parents, William Hilton Huggitt and Margaret Bettison Thurston.18
     She returned to LouisianaG with her parents before 1930. She appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana G, in the household of her parents.19
     Marguerite married first Edwin Frederick Prenger, son of Joseph Frank Prenger and Jessie Myrtle Watson, on 7 Dec 1936 in New Orleans, LouisianaG.7,8,9
     Marguerite and Edwin returned to his home, Peoria, IllinoisG, before 1940.20 They appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Peoria, Peoria Co., Illinois G, in the household of Min and Edwin Lehmann, his aunt and uncle.21
     Marguerite and Edwin apparently were divorced before 1942, as he re-married in February of that year. No record of the divorce has been found.10
     Marguerite married second Arthur Vance Childers, son of James William Childers and Cora Fait, by 1948. He had previously been married to Ruth Foster and Adelaide D. Leach.11,12,13
     Marguerite and Arthur settled California after their marriage. They appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of National City, San Diego Co., California, at 2717 Ridgeway G, enumerated 11 Apr 1950, reporting they lived in a home that was not on a farm. Her mother was listed as living with them, as were his sons by his prior marriage, William and Charles, aged 12 and 6 respectively, and his granddaughter, Judith A. Riley, age 5.22
     Marguerite and Arthur returned his home state, Arizona, by 1958, when they were living at 1909 Jason Vista, Tucson. G.23
     Marguerite filed for divorce from Arthur in Apr 1962 in Maricopa Co., ArizonaG. No record of a final grant has been found but it appears the divorce was subsequntly granted.14
     Marguerite died in Jun 1982 at age ~66.15,16 She was buried in Pima County Cemetery, Tucson, Pima Co., ArizonaG.17

William Hilton Huggitt was born on 27 Jul 1886 in Millom, EnglandG.4,5,6
     William arrived in New Orleans, LouisianaG, on 4 Apr 1914, aboard the Colonian, having departed Liverpool, England 14 Mar 1914.17,18,19 He was naturalized on 5 Mar 1920 in Los Angeles, CaliforniaG.20,21
     William married first Margaret Bettison Thurston on 31 Oct 1914 in New Orleans, LouisianaG.7,8,9
     William and Margaret moved to CaliforniaG before 1920.
     William and Margaret appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co., California, at 522 North Commonwealth Ave. G, enumerated 9 Jan 1920, reporting the family rented it's home, apparently part of the dwelling occupied by widow Marie F. Forsberg. Their daughter Marguerite was listed as living with them.22
     William and Margaret returned to Louisiana before 1930.
     William and Margaret appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana, at 7935 Burthe St. G, enumerated 2 Apr 1930, reporting that the family rented its home, for $50 per month, and did not own a radio. Their children Marguerite, William, James, and Harry were listed as living with them.23
     William and Margaret appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana, at 528 Passera Ct. G, enumerated 9 Apr 1940, reporting that the famiy rented its home for $27 per month, and that they had lived in the same city in 1935. Their children William, James, and Harry were listed as living with them.24
     William was a commander in the U.S. Navy in World War II, entering the service 16 Nov 1940.16
     He was a clerk at an oil company office in 1920 in Los Angeles, CaliforniaG, and a ship master at a steamship company by 1930. In 1940 he was a supervisor in a WPA bedding project, reporting that he had been out of work 65 weeks ("public emergency work" was counted as out of work), and had worked 52 weeks, earning $1,611 the prior year ("public emergency work" was counted here) in Los Angeles, CaliforniaG.25,26,27
     William married second Mavis Frances Hamby, daughter of Rev. William Thomas Hamby and Annie Lydia Zackary, on 3 Jun 1945 in District of ColumbiaG. She had previously been married to Edward R. Welling.10,11,12
     William and Margaret were divorced before 1950.13
     William and Mavis appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of Rossville, Walker Co., Georgia G, enumerated 5 Apr 1950, reporting they lived in a home that was not on a farm.28
     William died on 26 Aug 1951 in San Diego Co., CaliforniaG, at age 65.14,15 He was buried on 30 Aug 1951 in Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery, San Diego, CaliforniaG.16
