Narrative:

Mary Ruth Terhune was born in Aug 1864 in IllinoisG.5,6,7
     She generally used her middle name, Ruth, even in some offical records.1,3,12
     Mary was probably one of the four females under age 10 listed in the household of her father, James B. Terhune, on the 1865 State Census of Willow Hill, Jasper Co., IllinoisG.13 She appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Willow Hill, Jasper Co., IllinoisG, in the household of her parents, James B. Terhune and Martha M. Cobb.14
     She moved to IndianaG with her parents between 1870 and 1880.15 She appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Jackson Twp., Jackson Co., Indiana, G in the household of her parents.15
     Mary married Henry Stewart, son of James Stewart and Elizabeth Jones, and younger brother of the man her sister Sophronia had married four years before, on 15 May 1887 in Jasper Co., IllinoisG.8,9
     Mary and Henry appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Liberty, Jasper Co., Illinois G, enumerated 4 Jun 1900, reporting they rented their home.16
     Mary and Henry appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Willow Hill, Jasper Co., Illinois G, enumerated 15 Apr 1910, reporting they owned their home, free of mortgage.17
     Mary and Henry appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Willow Hill, Jasper Co., Illinois G, enumerated 5 Jan 1920, reporting they owned their home, which was mortgaged.18
     Mary and Henry appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Willow Hill, Jasper Co., Illinois G, enumerated 12 Apr 1930, reporting they owned a home valued at $1,000, and did not own a radio. His widowed brother Orlando was listed as living with them.19
     Mary and Henry were operating a restaurant by 1930. She had retired by 1930, but he continued.20,21,22
     Mary and Henry appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Willow Hill, Jasper Co., Illinois G, enumerated 5 Apr 1940, reporting they owned a home valued at $500, and that they had lived in the same house in 1935.23
     Her husband died on 3 May 1940 in Willow Hill, Jasper Co., IllinoisG.24
     Mary died in 1948 at age ~84.10 She was buried in Mound Cemetery, Hunt City, Jasper Co., IllinoisG.11

Cyrena Lee Deams was born on 17 Jul 1853 in Mount Pleasant, OhioG.4,5,6
     She appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Colerain Twp., Hamilton Co., OhioG, in the household of her parents, David Nelson Deams and Susanna Thurston.15
     She moved to IllinoisG with her parents by 1870. She appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Willow Hill Twp., Jasper Co., IllinoisG, in the household of her parents.16
     Cyrena married first Phillip A. Terhune, son of James B. Terhune and Martha M. Cobb, on 11 Jan 1872 in Jasper Co., IllinoisG, with Rev. L. W. P. Gilbert offciating.7,8,9
     Cyrena and Phillip appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of New Liberty, Jasper Co., Illinois G, enumerated 21 Jun 1880. Their children Guy and James were listed as living with them.17
     Cyrena and Phillip moved to Edwards Co., IllinoisG, by 1900. They appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Bone Gap, Edwards Co., Illinois G, enumerated 19 Jun 1900, reporting that the family owned its home, which was mortgaged. Their children Winnie and Mayme were listed as living with them.18
     Her husband died on 12 Feb 1905.19,20
     Cyrena returned to Jasper Co.G. She appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Willow Hill, Jasper Co., Illinois G, enumerated 3 Apr 1910, reporting that she owned her home. Her children Guy and Mayme were listed as living with her.21
     Cyrena married second Robert E. Leeper, son of Jesse Leeper and Sarah, on 20 Apr 1911 in Quincy, Adams Co., IllinoisG, with Lyman McCarl, county judge, offciating.10
     Her second husband died on 10 Jan 1915 in Columbus, Adams Co., IllinoisG.22
     Cyrena moved to PeoriaG after the death of her second husband. She appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Peoria, Peoria Co., Illinois, G in the household of her daughter Winnie and her daughter Alma. There were also four lodgers listed in the household, three men, all salesmen, and a woman who was a teacher. Winnie's husband was living in Center Twp., Kansas, working as an oil field contractor.23,24
     Cyrena appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Peoria, Peoria Co., Illinois, G in the household of her daughter Winnie, who was now divorced.25
     Cyrena died on 2 Jul 1931, at her home, 518 Hamilton Blvd., Peoria, Peoria Co., IllinoisG, at age 77.11,12 She was buried on 5 Jul 1931 in Mound Cemetery, Hunt City, Jasper Co., IllinoisG.13,14

Marthena Jane Perry was born in Mar 1852 in IndianaG.6,7,8
     She appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Fugit Twp., Decatur Co., IndianaG, in the household of her parents, James Perry and Marthena Ryon.14
     She moved to IllinoisG with her parents by 1870. She appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Willow Hill, Jasper Co., IllinoisG, in the household of her parents, James Perry and Marthena Ryon.15
     Marthena married Elkanah C. Terhune, son of James B. Terhune and Martha M. Cobb, on 28 Sep 1871 in Jasper Co., IllinoisG.9,10,11
     Marthena and Elkanah moved to IndianaG about 1877. They appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Seymour, Jackson Co., Indiana, on West Tipton St. G, enumerated 7 Jun 1880. Their children Willard and Sarah were listed as living with them, as was her mother, Marthena Ryon, and her sister, Josephene T. Perry.16
     Marthena and Elkanah returned to Indiana by 1900. They appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Newton, Jasper Co., Illinois, on Jourdau St. G, enumerated 6 Jun 1900, reporting that the couple owned their home, free of mortgage.17
     Marthena and Elkanah returned to Illinois by 1910. They appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Urbana, Champaign Co., Illinois, at 1410 Eads G, enumerated 21 Apr 1910, reporting they rented their home. Their children Willard and Sarah were listed as living with them. Sarah was listed in their household as single, obviously in error, as she also appeared next door, at 1408 Eads, with her husband, Walter Burke, and their children Vivian, Alice, Charles, and Marvin.18
     Marthena and Elkanah appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Urbana, Champaign Co., Illinois, at 1406 West Hill G, enumerated 2 Jan 1920, reporting they owned their home, free of mortgage. Their daughter Sarah was listed as living with them, as were her husband, Walter Burke, and their children Vivian, Alice, Charles, and Marvin.19
     Her husband died on 15 Jun 1922 in Newton, Jasper Co., IllinoisG.20,21,22
     Marthena applied for a widow's pension based on her late husband's Civil War service on 5 Jul 1922, which was approved 6 Sep 1922, for $30 per month, effective on the application date.23,24
     Marthena died on 17 Aug 1922 at age 70.12,8 She was buried in Riverside Cemetery, Newton, Jasper Co., IllinoisG.13
