     He was recorded as a Hausgenosse, or tenant, in BeiersdorfG when his daughter Sophie as married in 1864, meaning he did not own his home or a farm, so had to work for others. His occupation was shown as Handarbeiters, literally "one who works with his hands," probably better translated as "day laborer." in BeiersdorfG.6,7
