Simeon & Betsy Cobb Monument

Betsey Henryford was born on 3 Jan 1808 in Vernon Center, Oneida Co., New YorkG.4,5,6 While her given name seems to have been Elizabeth, she seems to have used the name Betsey almost universally.13,14
     Betsey married Simeon E. Cobb, son of Capt. Joshua Cobb and Hannah Edgerton, about 1827.7,8,9 She was probably the female age 30 to 40 listed in the household of her husband, Simeon E. Cobb, in the 1840 Federal Census of Lenox, Madison Co., New YorkG.15
     Betsey and Simeon appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Lenox, Madison Co., New YorkG, enumerated 2 Aug 1850, reporting real estate valued at $8,300. Their children Henry, Ellen, and Elizabeth were listed as living with them, as was Jacob Wolf, age 30, a laborer. They were apparently living quite near his sister Polly and her family, as they appear only three households away on the census record.16
     Betsey and Simeon moved their family to Wisconsin in 1853. They located at Whitewater, Walworth Co. in the southeast corner of the state, a few miles from where his brother Joshua and his daughter and her husband had located in Rock Co.17,18,19 (See map.)
     Betsey and Simeon appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Whitewater, Walworth Co., WisconsinG, enumerated 25 Aug 1860, reporting real estate valued at $10,000 and personal estate of $8,000. Their children Henry, Ellen, and Elizabeth were listed as living with them.20
     Betsey appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Whitewater, Walworth Co., WisconsinG, in the household of Frank W. Tratt and Elizabeth Lydia Cobb, her daughter and her husband. She reported real estate valued at $8,000 and personal estate of $4,000.21
     Betsey appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Whitewater, Walworth Co., Wisconsin G, in the household of Henry H. Cobb, her son.22
     Betsey died on 15 Jun 1890 in Whitewater, Walworth Co., WisconsinG, at age 82.10 She was buried in Hillside Cemetery, Whitewater, WisconsinG.11,12
