     Walter appeared as a boarder on the 1910 Federal Census of Paxton, Ford Co., Illinois G, in the household of James Wesley Kisner and Katie Karr, the parents of his future wife, who was also listed as living there. Both he and his future father-in-law are shown as "makers" in an ice cream factory, and Charlotte, one of Jame's daughters, is listed as a bookkeeper there.15

     He appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Pigeon Grove Twp., Iroquois Co., Illinois, G in the household of his parents, William Howard Lyon Jr. and Catherine H. Wilson.16 He appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Pigeon Grove Twp., Iroquois Co., Illinois G, in the household of his parents.17
     He was as farm laborer at age 18, presumably on the family farm. On the 1940 census his father reported that Harold had worked 72 hours the last week of March.17 He registered for the draft for World War II on 30 Jun 1942, while living at Cissna Park, Iroquois Co., IllinoisG, reporting he was employed by E. J. & E. Railroad.3
     Harold was in the U.S. Army in World War II, enlisting 16 Sep 1942. He served with the railroad engineers in Europe with a rank of technician fourth grade.18,19,20
      Harold was discharged from the Army 17 Jan 1946.21
     Harold appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of Gary, Lake Co., Indiana, at 744 Virginia G, enumerated 25 Aug 1950, reporting he lived in a home that was not on a farm.22
