Narrative:

     Harriett Johannet Flora was born about 1811 in Halifax Co., Virginia.4,5,6
     She was probably one of the two females age 10 to 16 listed in the household of her father, Elisha Flora, in the 1820 Federal Census of Meadsville, Halifax Co., Virginia.8 She was probably one of the two females age 15 to 20 listed in the household of her father, in the 1830 Federal Census of Halifax Co., Virginia.9
     Harriett married Melcajah Ferrell on 13 Jan 1831 in Halifax Co., Virginia.1
     Her husband apparently died before 1850, as he is not listed with her and the three children in the 1850 census and no record of his has been found after that.10,11
     Harriett appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Halifax Co., Virginia, enumerated 1 Aug 1850. Her children Sarah, Melcajah and William were listed as living with her.10
     Harriett appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Halifax Courthouse, Halifax Co., Virginia, enumerated 11 Jun 1860.12 Her son William was apparently living close by, as he is listed in the next household on the census record, living with and apparently apprenticed to a wheel wright. Her sister Elizabeth and her family were listed as the fifth following household in the census record, and their cousin Melcajah Rhum Toot and his family were listed as the second preceding household.13
     In 1863, when her younger son enlisted in the Army, she was described in a letter of recommenation as "a most excellent widowed mother in necessitous curcumstances."14
     Harriett appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Halifax Courthouse, Halifax Co., Virginia, in the household of her daughter Sarah and her husband, Samuel E. Webster.15 She appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Halifax Co., Virginia, in the household of her daughter Sarah and her husband.16
     Harriett died on 17 Jan 1894 in Halifax Co., Virginia.7
