Narrative:

Elisha Flora was born in 1780.5,6,7 His given name was recorded in some records as Elijah.10,2
He was probably one of the three males under age 16 listed in the household of his father, Joseph Flora Jr., in the 1790 Federal Census of Dauphin Co., Pennsylvania.11
His father died on 10 Jan 1795, when Elisha was about 15 years old.12,13
Elisha moved to Halifax Co., Virginia, apparently following his mother's younger brother, Adam Toot, some time before he married there in 1803.
Elisha married Genette Young on 31 Aug 1803 in Halifax Co., Virginia.8,9
The 1810 census for Halifax Co. and several other counties were burned when the British occupied Washington, but the tax lists survive. Elisha appeared on the 1810 tax list for the Northern District of Halifax Co., reporting one white male over age 16, and one horse or mule. His tax due was 12¢.14
Elisha appeared on the 1820 Federal Census of Meadsville, Halifax Co., Virginia, with a household consisting of one white male under age 10 (unknown), one age 16 to 18 (unknown), and one age 26 to 45 (himself), two white females under age 10 (daughters Elizabeth and Margarette), two age 10 to 16 (Harriett and Susan), two age 16 to 26 (probably Catharine and another), and one over age 26 to 45 (wife Genette). There was also one male slave age 15 to 26.15
Elisha appeared on the 1830 Federal Census of Halifax Co., Virginia, with a household consisting of one male age 5 to 10 (unknown), one age 20 to 30 (unknown), and one age 50 to 60 (himself), one female age 10 to 15 (probably daughter Janett though she was not yet 10), two age 15 to 20 (Harriett and Susan), and one age 40 to 50 (wife Genette Young). The household also included one male slave under age 10 and a female age 10 to 24.16
Elisha appeared on the 1840 Federal Census of Halifax Co., Virginia, with a household consisting of two males age 15 to 20 (unknown), and one age 60 to 70 (himself), two females age 20 to 30 (probably daughters Janett and Susan, though Janett was not yet 20), and one age 50 to 60 (wife Genette). There also two female slaves listed, one age 10 to 24, and the other age 24 to 36.2
Elisha and Genette appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Pittsylvania Co., Virginia, enumerated 16 Dec 1850, Their daughter Janett and her husband were evidently living close by, or perhaps even in the same dwelling, as they were listed in the preceding household in the census record.3
     He was a carpenter.17,18,3
Elisha apparently died before 1860, as he is not found in the 1860 census, but no death record has been found.

Children:
     Children with Genette Young

The number of unknown young boys recorded in the 1820, 1830, and 1840 censuses suggest Elisha and Genette had additional children whose names are unknown.
