Persis Clark Cobb was born on 23 Nov 1815 in Kentucky.6,7,8 She was probably one of the two females age 15 to 20 listed in the household of her father, Gideon Dyer Cobb, in the 1830 Federal Census of Eddyville, Caldwell Co., Kentucky.14
Persis married George M. Marshall, son of George Marshall and Ann Rosewell, on 11 Feb 1834 in Eddyville, Caldwell Co., Kentucky, with Rev. John Johnson officiating.9,10,11,12
She was probably one of the two females age 20 to 30 listed in the household of her husband, George M. Marshall, in the 1840 Federal Census of Caldwell Co., Kentucky.15
Persis and George appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of District No. 1, Crittenden Co., Kentucky, enumerated 29 Aug 1850, apparently living next door to where her brothers Gideon and Caleb lived when in the area to tend to their iron business. Their children John, Edwin, Ellen, Gideon, Henry, Mary and Charles were listed as living with them, as was one slave, a 47 year-old female.16,17
On 16 Aug 1851 Persis' brother Gideon gave her and her children John, Edwin, Ellen, Gideon, Henry, Mary and Charles the 185-acre parcel on the waters of Livingston Creek and the Cumberland River in Crittenden Co. that he had purchased from Theophilus Killen and his wife Malinda on 2 Dec 1850, for which he had paid $550.18
Persis and George appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Dycusburg, Crittenden Co., Kentucky, enumerated 16 Jul 1860, reporting real estate valued at $4000, and personal estate valued at $1000. Their children Gideon, Henry, Mary, Charles and Fanny were listed as living with them.19
Persis apparently died before 1869, as her husband re-married in October of that year.13
