Miscellaneous Custom Sources

Here are a few special custom Sources I have found useful.

Terry's Conclusions Source:

When I draw a conclusion from information in a single source, I document that conclusion in the Citation Detail (CD) when I cite that source. But sometimes I draw a conclusion from several sources by deduction, and want to document that conclusion. In that case I use a special custom "source" called Conclusions. Since I need only one of these in my Data Set, I did not create a custom Source Type but simply modifed the Output Templates in that Source after choosing an arbitrary Source Type. The Template I uses was:

Technical Notes

• The double exclusion marker in the bibliography template keeps the "source" from appearing in the bibliography.

Usage Notes

Enter the full text of your notes in the CD when you cite this "source." The text then appears as a footnote or endnote with all the regular sources. Start with an initial capital, as this will be a stand-alone sentence.

 

Terry's Miscellaneous Source:

Sometimes I find a fact of interest in a strange place that I don't really want to create as a formal source. Usually this involves a single fact, like a single mention of an ancestor in a book or web page. Another example is a new "fact" I find in some web page; I may not regard it as reliable, but I want to record for follow-up later from a more reliable source. My solution is a custom Source called Misc. Since I need only one of these in my Data Set, I did not create a custom Source Type but simply modifed the Output Templates in that Source after choosing an arbitrary Source Type. The Template I uses was:

Usage Notes

Eter the full description of your source in the CD when you cite this source. Follow your normal style guide in making the entry, using the format for a full footnote. Where italics are expected, insert the italics printer codes (example: [ITAL:]Book Title[:ITAL]) either manually or by use of the Codes menu at the top of the TMG screen.
