Lucy and Norman moved to Washtenaw Co., in the southeast corner of Michigan Territory, by 1835.16 She was probably the female age 30 to 40 listed in the household of her husband, Norman, in the 1840 Federal Census of Washtenaw Co., Michigan.17
Lucy and Norman appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Bridgewater, Washtenaw Co., Michigan, enumerated 21 Sep 1850, reporting real estate valued at $4,000. Their children Cecilia, Emma, Henry, Charles and Mary were listed as living with them, as was Cornelius Hyatt, age 19.18

She was living in what appears to be a multi-unit building, with another individual and two families also living there. She may have been one of the tenants, but more likely she owned the building and was renting space to others.23
