     Stephen Barker Ward was born on 10 Dec 1879 in Procterville, Lawrence Co., Ohio, according to most records, though the 1880 census says he was born in Aug and was nine months old on 1 Jun of 1880.10,11,12,13
     He appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Union Twp., Lawrence Co., Ohio, in the household of his parents, Henry William Ward and Lucy Virginia Graham.4 He appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Procterville, Lawrence Co., Ohio, in the household of his parents.5
     Stephen moved to Livingston Co., Illinois, in 1907.18 He appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Germanville Twp., Livingston Co., Illinois, enumerated 4 May 1910, listed as a farm hand in the household of Arthur Netherton, his wife, and their infant son.19
     Stephen married Esther Matilda Glabe, daughter of Sebastian Glabe and Anna Katherine Ruppel, on 3 Apr 1913 in Pontiac, Illinois, with Rev. John H. Ryan officating.14,15
     By 1917 he was operating his father-in-law's 160 acre farm in Germanville Twp.. In 1920 he reported he was a farmer working on his own account.20,21
     Stephen registered for the draft for World War I on 12 Sep 1918, while living at Chatsworth, Livingston Co., Illinois, reporting he was employed as a farmer.2
     Stephen and Esther appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Germanville Twp., Livingston Co., Illinois, enumerated 8 Jan 1920, reporting that they were renting their home. Their daughter Olive was listed as living with them.22
     Stephen and Esther moved to California between 1920 and 1930. They appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Arcadia, Los Angeles Co., California, at 480 Naomi Ave., enumerated 18 Apr 1930, reporting they owned a home valued at $12,000. Their daughter Olive was listed as living with them.23
     He operated a poultry farm in California, continuing until at least 1935. By 1939 he was working as a carpenter. He continued to work as a carpenter until at least 1953.24,25,26 Carpentry work seems to have been scarce in 1940, when he reported he was was working as a labor, "for hire." That year he reported that he had worked 40 hours the list week of March, and 40 weeks the prior year, earning $800.27
     Stephen and Esther appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Arcadia, Los Angeles Co., California, at 490 Naomi Ave., enumerated 22 Apr 1940, reporting they owned a home valued at $4,000 and had lived in the same house in 1935.27
     Stephen registered for the draft for World War II on 25 Apr 1942, while living at 490 Naomi Ave., Arcadia, Los Angeles Co., California, reporting he was self-employed.3
     Stephen and Esther appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of Arcadia, Los Angeles Co., California, at 488 Naomi, enumerated 4 Apr 1950, reporting they lived in a home that was not on a farm and they lived in a different house but the same county the year before.28
     Stephen died on 17 Oct 1969 in Los Angeles Co., California, at age 89.16 He was buried in Rose Hills Memorial Park, Whittier, Los Angeles Co., California.17
