Emma Sophia Gapsch was born on 24 Apr 1891 in Portland, Oregon.9,4,10 She appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Reedville, Oregon in the household of her parents, Robert Edward Gapsch and Matilda Henriksdotter.6
     She moved to La Center, Washington, with her parents, after they bought the farm there in Nov 1900. They loaded all their goods on a wagon, and herded the dairy cows all the way, some 50 miles, crossing the Columbia River on a ferry.16 She appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of La Center, Washington in the household of her parents.17
     Emma married Frank Reigel, son of Benjamin Franklin Riegel and Esther Matilda Gann, on 25 Feb 1911 in St. James Lutheran Church, Portland, Oregon, with Rev. J. A. Leas officiating. His sister, Ida, and her brother, Henry, were their attendants.11,12,13
     Emma and Frank seem to have repeatedly taken out mortgages and repaid them. Apparently the money was needed for living expenses. On 20 Jan 1915 he and Emma took a mortgage on his original farm for $600, at 9% interest, for four years from F. F. Myers.18
     Emma transferred all her interest in the farm property to Frank on 17 Aug 1917, apparently in contemplation of her death.19
     Emma died on 31 Oct 1917 in Clark Co., Washington, at age 26.4,14 She was buried on 1 Nov 1917 at Jenny Creek.15
