Narrative:

     Hanson R. Mims was born on 21 Aug 1836 in Eddyville, Caldwell Co., Kentucky.5,6,7 He was probably the male under age 5 listed in the household of his father, John H. Mims, in the 1840 Federal Census of Caldwell Co., Kentucky.9
     His father died on 11 Apr 1850, when Hanson was 13 years old.10,11
     He appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Caldwell Co., Kentucky, in the household of his mother, Caroline Hanson Cresap.3,12
     According to family lore, Hanson, regarded as the "black sheep" of the family, spent much of the $50,000 proceeds from his mother's sale of his father's property, then took the rest to New Orleans where he stayed with his mother's brother, Hanson Briscoe Cresap.13
     Hanson died on 13 Jun 1859 in New Orleans, Louisiana, at age 22, committing suicide at the home of his uncle, Hanson Briscoe Cresap, after his wounds from a duel became infected.5,8
