Narrative:

Lemuel Reed Brown was born on 7 Mar 1853 in Lynchburg, Virginia.4,5,6
Lemuel married Sarah Frances Winston about 1885.7,8
Lemuel and Sarah appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Brookville, Campbell Co., Virginia, enumerated 5 Jun 1900, reporting that they owned their home, free of mortgage. Their daughter Grace was listed as living with them.10
Lemuel and Sarah appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Lynchburg, Virginia, at 2510 Fifth Ave., enumerated 20 Apr 1910, reporting that they owned their home, which was mortgaged. Their daughter Grace was listed as living with them.1
Lemuel appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Elon, Amhurst Co., Virginia, enumerated 29 Jan 1920, reporting that he rented his home. His daughter Grace was listed as living with him, as was her daughter, Helen Wheatley. The record seems confused, and there may well have been others in the household. Lemuel is listed as married, but his wife is not listed. His daughter is listed, but the name is shown as Ralph Wheatley, though all the other information seems to be correct for Grace. Neither Grace nor Ralph can be found elsewhere, so it appears that he was actually supposed to be listed here, and perhaps Lemuel's wife Sallie was too.2
Lemuel appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Lynchburg, Virginia, at 1501 Church, enumerated 9 Apr 1930, lodging with Joseph L. Smith and his wife.11
Lemuel was a printer, working in a print shop.10,12,13
Lemuel died on 24 Sep 1940 in Lynchburg, Virginia, at age 87.9 He was buried on 25 Sep 1940 in Spring Hill Cemetery, Lynchburg, Virginia.3
