Narrative:
Robert Morford Adams was born on 2 May 1890 in Deerwood, Crow Wing Co., Minnesota.10,11,12He appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Deerwood, Crow Wing Co., Minnesota, in the household of his parents, Cuyler Adams and Virginia Culver.5 He appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Deerwood, Crow Wing Co., Minnesota, in the household of his parents.6
Robert married Cherrill Elizabeth McNeill, daughter of Rivers McNeill and Stella Elizabeth Corby, on 25 Jun 1913 in Evanston, Cook Co., Illinois.13,14,15
Robert's father discovered iron ore in the area of Minnesota later known as Deerwood, in what was named the Cuyuna Range. He was largely responsible for development of ore mining there. He built the Cuyuna Iron Range Railroad, and was president of the Biwango Mining Company. The name of the range was supposedly a combination of the first syllable of his name, Cuyler, and the name of his dog, Una, and was conceived by his wife.20 Robert followed his father in the mining business, though details are unclear.21,22
Robert registered for the draft for World War I on 5 Jun 1917, while living at Deerwood, Minnesota, reporting he was employed in mining, development and production of iron ore, by companies "in which I am interested."4 He was clearly a mine owner before 1930.23,24
Robert and Cherrill appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Duluth, St Louis Co., Minnesota, at 1026 E Superior St., enumerated 12 Jan 1920, reporting they rented their home. Their children Robert and Malcolm were listed as living with them, as was Beatrice M Paquette, a nurse maid.25
They also appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Deerwood, Crow Wing Co., Minnesota, on Reno-Bay Lake Rd., enumerated 7 Feb 1920, reporting they owned their home, free of mortgage. It seems that they maintained homes in both places. Their children Robert and Malcolm were listed as living with them.26
Robert and Cherrill appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Duluth, St Louis Co., Minnesota, at 55 Kent Road, enumerated 14 Apr 1930, reporting they owned a home valued at $40,000, and owned a radio. Their children Robert, Malcolm and Salisbury were listed as living with them, as were Ella and Esther Gruenhagen, a cook and a maid.27
Robert and Cherrill appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Duluth, St Louis Co., Minnesota, at 55 E Kent Road, enumerated 3 Apr 1940, reporting they owned a home valued at $10,000, and that they had lived in the same house in 1935. Their children Malcolm and Salisbury were listed as living with them, as were two maids, Toine Peramaki and Alma Hanger.28
In 1940 he reported occupation as president in the mining industry, said he had worked 63 hours the last week of March, and 52 weeks the prior year.29 Robert registered for the draft for World War II on 27 Apr 1942, while living at 55 Kent Rd., Duluth, St Louis Co., Minnesota, reporting he was self-employed, in Duluth.3 In 1960 he was listed as president of Adams Bros. Inc, and Robert M. Adams Co. of Nevada, both with offices in Duluth.30
Robert died on 19 Dec 1972 in Saint Louis Co., Minnesota, at age 82.16,17,18 He was buried in Forest Hill Cemetery, Duluth, St. Co., Minnesota.19
