Arthur Augusta Bray was born on 16 May 1891 near West Plains, Missouri.7,8,9He appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Howell Twp., Howell Co., Missouri, in the household of his parents, James Knox Polk Bray and Francis America Davis.4
Arthur married Iva Nellie Reigle, daughter of William David Riegel and Mary J. Quakenbush, on 26 Dec 1913 in West Plaine, Howell Co., Missouri, after receiving the assent of her mother because she was under age 18.10,11,12
Arthur registered for the draft for World War I on 5 Jun 1917, while living at West Plains, Missouri, reporting he was employed as a section laborer by the Frisco Railroad in the same town.2
Arthur and Ivy and their young daughter moved to Colorado between 1917 and 1919. They appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Adams Co., Colorado, enumerated 3 Feb 1920, reporting that they were renting their home. Their children Edith and Arthur were listed as living with them.16
Arthur and Ivy appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Ault, Weld Co., Colorado, enumerated 10 Apr 1930, reporting that they were renting their home, and they owned a radio. Their children Edith, Arthur and Ervin were listed as living with them.3
By 1940 he was using a shorted version of his middle name, Gus, even for legal documents.17,18,19
Arthur and Ivy appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Galeton, Weld Co., Colorado, enumerated 24 Apr 1940, reporting they rented their home, and had lived in the same place in 1935. Their children Ervin and a daughter who may still be living were listed as living with them.20
He was a farm laborer after he moved to Colorado. By 1940 he had his own farm, and reported he had worked 60 hours the last week of March, and 52 weeks the prior year.21,22,23 He registered for the draft for World War II on 27 Apr 1942, while living at Eaton, Weld Co., Colorado, reporting he was self-employed.17
Arthur and Iva appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of Greeley, Weld Co., Colorado, at 2002 8th St., enumerated 12 Apr 1950, reporting they lived in a home that was not on a farm and they lived in the same house the year before. Their children Ervin were listed as living with them.18
He reported in the 1950 census he was unable to work, relatives in the household, presumably his son Ervin, had earned $3,380 the prior year, and members of the household had received $177 in other income.24
Arthur died on 15 Oct 1972 at age 81.13,14 He was buried in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Greeley, Weld Co., Colorado.15
