Edwin C. Martz was born on 9 Jul 1862 in Bartonsville, Pennsylvania.6,7,8 He appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Hamilton Twp., Monroe Co., Pennsylvania, in the household of his parents, Samuel Martz and Margaret Custard.12Edwin appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Stroudsburg, Monroe Co., Pennsylvania, enumerated 12 Jun 1880, listed as a boarder in the household of Samuel P. and Catherine Custard, who were apparently relatives of his mother.13
Edwin married Elizabeth Dreher, daughter of George S. Dreher and Angeline Metzgar, about 1885.9,10,11
Edwin and Elizabeth appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Hamilton Twp., Monroe Co., Pennsylvania, enumerated 5 Jun 1900, reporting that the family owned it's farm. Their children George, Edith and Frank were listed as living with them.3

His wife died on 18 Jan 1929 in Stroudsburg, Monroe Co., Pennsylvania.16

Edwin appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Hamilton Twp., Monroe Co., Pennsylvania, in the household of his daughter Edith and her husband, Joseph Starner. He reported he had been living in rural Monroe Co. in 1935.18
He was working in a tannery by age 17. He then became a farmer, retiring by 1930 when he was a caretaker of a farm. His death certificate shows his occupation as retired stone mason, but not other record found shows that occupation.19,20,21,22,23,24
Edwin died on 24 Sep 1947 in Cogan House, Lycoming Co., Pennsylvania, at age 85.5 He was buried on 29 Sep 1947 in St. Johns, Bartonsville, Pennsylvania.5
