     Susan and Richard appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Halifax Co., Virginia, enumerated 24 Oct 1850, reporting real estate valued at $13,000. Their children Richard, William, Henry, Robert, Sarah, Mary and Howell were listed as living with them, as well as 21 slaves.9,10
     Her husband died in Sep 1859.11,12
     She was a farmer by 1860, apparently have taken on responsiblity for the farm after her husband's death.13
