     Frances T. Britton was born on 28 Jan 1847 in Halifax Co., Virginia.8,9,10
     She appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Halifax Co., Virginia, in the household of her parents, Isham H. Britton and Mary W. Toot.18,19
     Her father died about 1852, when Frances was about less than five years old.20,21
     She appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Halifax Co., Virginia, in the household of her mother, Mary W. Toot, reporting personal estate of $2,000, and ownership of two slaves employed by her mother.22,23
     Frances married her first cousin, Charles Henry Toot, son of Melcajah Rhum Toot and Mariah Louis Smith, on 12 Dec 1865 in Halifax Co., Virginia, with A. B. Carrington officiating.11,12,13
     Frances and Charles settled in Virginia after their marriage. They appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Halifax Courthouse, Halifax Co., Virginia, enumerated 13 Sep 1870, reporting personal estate of $500. Their son Frederick was listed as living with them.24
     Frances appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Roanoke, Halifax Co., Virginia, in the household of Mary W. Toot, her mother, with her sons, Frederick Alexander Toot and William Andrew Toot. Her husband, Charles, has not been located in that census.7
     Frances and Charles moved to Richmond after 1880.25 They appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Richmond, Virginia, at 1415 Marshall St., enumerated 12 Jun 1900. Their son Frederick was listed as living with them.26
     Her husband died on 28 Nov 1901 in Fair Oaks Station, Henrico Co., Virginia.27,28,29
     Frances was qualified as executrix of the estate of her late husband when it was probated in Dec 1901.30
     Frances appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Richmond, Virginia, enumerated 22 Apr 1910, listed as boarding but the family she was boarding with cannot be identified.31
     Frances appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Richmond, Virginia, at 1823 Venabel St., enumerated 11 Jan 1920, listed as a boarder in the home of Susie Jones, a seamstress with a shop in her home.32
     Frances applied for a pension based on her late husband's Civil War service on 15 Apr 1921. She stated she was living at 1823 Venabel St., Richmond, Virginia, with Mrs. Susie Jones, was receiving no assistance and had no income, and owned no real estate but had $600 in the bank at 3% interest. Her application was approved 12 May, for $60 per month.33
     Frances died on 28 Feb 1925 in 1311 N. 28th St., Richmond, Henrico Co., Virginia, at age 78, at her residence, the home of her son William.14,15 She was buried on 2 Mar 1925 in Oakwood Cemetery, Richmond, Virginia.16,17
