Narrative:

Georg Samuel Elmgren was born on 22 Apr 1904 in Stockholm, Sweden.4,5,6
Georg appears on the crew list as a waiter aboard the S.S. Kungsholm, arriving in New York 22 Aug 1923 from Gothenburg, Sweden. He had signed on 9 Aug 1923 at Gothenburg, and was listed as not being discharged at this port. However, when the ship departed on 6 Sep he was listed among the 72 crew members who had deserted.16
But he continued working aboard ships. He was listed as an assistant steward aboard the S.S. Manchuria departing New York 25 Jun 1924, bound for Havana, the Canal Zone, Los Angeles and San Francisco. His next of kin was listed as "boarding house" at 209 E. 40th St., New York City, an address shared with several other crew members.17
He was listed as a messboy aboard the S.S. Ranenfjord arriving in New Orleans 31 Jul 1925 from Antofagasta, Chile. He was shown as signing on 16 Apr 1925 in Seattle.18 He was listed as a pantryman aboard the S.S. Alegria arriving in New Orleans 18 Sep 1925 from La Ceiba, Honduras. He was shown as signing on 21 Aug 1925 in New Orleans.19 He was listed as a mess man aboard the S.S. Beta arriving in New York 12 Oct 1925 from New Orleans and Havana. He was shown as signing on 22 Sep 1925 in New Orleans, to be paid off in New York.20
That appears to have been the end of his seafaring career. By 1930 he was a meterial clerk at the government hospital at Ft. Stanton, New Mexico.21 Georg appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Ft. Stanton, Lincoln Co., New Mexico, enumerated 7 Apr 1930, living in government housing there.21
He moved to Washington by 1935, when he was living in Concrete, Skagit Co.22 He appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Seattle, King Co., Washington, at 1421 Belmont, enumerated 27 Apr 1940, reporting that he was renting his home, one of 15 units in the building.22
By 1940 he was a sign painter, working for Wash Poster Company. That year he reported he worked 30 hours the last week of March, and 52 weeks the prior year, earning $1,500.22,23 The next year he was calling himself a commercial artist, and was working for System Sign Company. He also moved his residence to 715 Blanchard, Apt. 7. By 1948 he was working for Flynn Sign Company. He
reported in the 1950 census he had worked 40 hours the prior week.24,25
Georg registered for the draft for World War II on 15 Feb 1942, while living at 715 Blanchard, Seattle, King Co., Washington, reporting he was employed by Washington Poster Co. in Seattle.3
Georg began the process of naturalization by filing a Declaration of Intentions 29 Mar 1944 with the U.S. Western District Court for Washington. It is unknown whether he completed the process.26
Georg married first Virgina Lois Trafton, daughter of Mark E. Trafton and Ada Ring, on 21 Dec 1949 in the Methodist parsonage, 5751 33rd NE, Seattle, King Co., Washington, with Rev. D. L. Rothweiler offciating.7,8
Georg appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of Seattle, King Co., Washington, at 306 Blanchard St., enumerated 18 Apr 1950, in what appears to have been an apartment building He is listed as married, but his wife is not listed in the household and has not been found elsewhere.27
Georg and Virgina apparently divorced, as when she died in Aug 1953 her death certificate showed her as married, with surname Sherrill. But no record of her remarriage has been found. An un-sourced online tree claims she married Ross Sherrill 19 Dec 1952 in Snohomish Co., but the marriage index for that county does not show the marriage.9,10
Georg married second Bessie Regina Reigel, daughter of Ralph Orzben Reigel and Edith Jennie Roberts, on 28 Jul 1953 in Kitsap Co., Washington, with E. Jull, justice of the peace, offciating.11,12
After their marriage Georg and Bessie lived at 516½ Minor Ave. North, Seattle.28,29 They moved to 3619 Corliss Ave. about 1960.30
Georg died on 7 Mar 1976 in Seattle, Washington, at age 71.13,14,15
