Narrative:

     Jacob Goembel was born on 7 May 1824 in Niederaula, Kurfuerstentum Hessen.1,5,6 He was baptized on 27 May 1824 in Niederaula.1 Jacob was baptized as Jacob Gömbel, but in the U. S. he used the spelling Jacob Goembel.1
     He arrived in New Orleans with his parents, Sebastian Goembel and Anna Eva Schaeffer, on 2 Jun 1834, aboard the Ernst and Gustav, having departed Bremen.11,12,13 The family traveled up the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers to Ft. Clark (now Peoria, Illinois), and settled in Washington Twp., Tazewell Co., Illinois.14,15
     Jacob married Louisa Eliza Luther on 11 Apr 1846.7,8
     He was a farmer.16,17,18,19,20
     Jacob and Louisa appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Tazewell Co., Illinois, enumerated 30 Aug 1850, reporting real estate valued ate $250. Their children William and Samuel were listed as living with them.16
     Jacob and Louisa moved to Henry Co. in 1851.4 On 15 Sep 1854 Jacob was granted a patent for 33.8 acres of land in Henry Co., Illinois, under the Cash Entry Act of April 24,1820. That act reduced the minimum price of public land to $1.25 per acre, and the minimum purchase to 80 acres, but required payment in cash, not on credit.21
     Jacob and Louisa appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Yorktown, Henry Co., Illinois, enumerated 28 Aug 1860, reporting real estate valued at $1,800 and personal estate of $1,400. Their children William, Samuel, Jacob, Peter, Anna, Lydia and Wilhelmine were listed as living with them.17
     Jacob and Louisa appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Yorktown, Henry Co., Illinois, enumerated 8 Jul 1870, reporting real estate valued at $12,000 and personal estate of $2,000. Their children William, Samuel, Jacob, Peter, Anna, Lydia and John were listed as living with them.18
     Jacob sold his homestead of 244 acres to his son Samuel in 1875.22 Jacob and Louisa then moved to Geneseo.4 They appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Geneseo, Henry Co., Illinois, enumerated 12 Jun 1880. Their son John was listed as living with them.23
     Jacob and Louisa appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Geneseo, Henry Co., Illinois, at Center St., enumerated 4 Jun 1900, reporting that they owned their home, free of mortgage.24
     Jacob died in 1908.9 He was buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo, Henry Co., Illinois.10
