Jacob Goembel was born on 7 May 1824 in Niederaula, Kurfuerstentum Hessen
He arrived in New Orleans with his parents, Sebastian Goembel and Anna Eva Schaeffer, on 2 Jun 1834, aboard the Ernst and Gustav, having departed Bremen.11,12,13 The family traveled up the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers to Ft. Clark (now Peoria, Illinois), and settled in Washington Twp., Tazewell Co., Illinois
