     Edwin Cobb Williams was born on 22 Feb 1869 in Tennessee.6,7,8
     He appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of White Bluff, Dickson Co., Tennessee, in the household of his parents, Robert Henry Williams and Virginia D. Cobb.16
     He moved to Montgomery Co. with his parents before 1880. He appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Montgomery Co., Tennessee, in the household of his parents.4
     Edwin moved to New York about 1897.17 He appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Manhattan, New York Co., New York, enumerated 6 Jun 1900. His father and sister Anna were listed as boarding with him, as were George C. Dortch Jr., son of his mother's half-brother Dr. George C. Dortch, and the latter's grandchildren by his daughter Susan, Henry B. and Liza M. Wilson.18
     He was an electrician for the New York Central Railroad, becoming superintendent of transmission of electrical power by 1908. He retired in 1920.19,20,21,22,23
     Edwin appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Manhattan, New York Co., New York, at 27 & 29 129th St. West, enumerated 15 Apr 1910, reporting he was renting his residence. Harry C. Tooker, also an electrical engineer at a railroad, was listed as living with him.24
     Edwin married Amy Bates Matthews, daughter of Gardiner Dickinson Matthews and Harriet Celestia Bates, on 14 Feb 1911 at 208 Washington Park, Brooklyn, Kings Co., New York, in a quiet ceremony at her parents' home, with Rev. Dr. Cleland B. McAfee officating.9,10
     Edwin and Amy appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Brooklyn, Kings Co., New York, at 208 Berkeley Place, enumerated 14 Jan 1920, reporting they owned their home, which was mortgaged. Also listed as living with them were her father, and Edwin's sister Anna and cousin Samuel Mulford Jessup.25
     Edwin and Amy moved to California before 1930. They appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co., California, at 3418 La Clede Ave., enumerated 5 Apr 1930, reporting that they owned a home valued at $6,500, and owned a radio.26
     Edwin and Amy appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co., California, at 3418 La Clede Ave., enumerated 7 Apr 1940, reporting they owned a home valued at $3,500 and had lived in the same city in 1935. Also listed as living with them were three lodgers, young men aged 21 to 25, all working in different aspects of the restaurant business.27
     By 1940 he was a real estate salesman, and reported he had worked 40 hours the last week of March, and 52 weeks the prior year.28
     Edwin died on 29 Jun 1954 in Los Angeles Co., California, at age 85.11,12,13 He was buried on 2 Jul 1954 in Grand View Memorial Park, Glendale, Los Angeles Co., California, in the North Mausoleum.14,15
