Stephen & Hannah's Tombstone

Stephen Lowing was born on 3 Jun 1798 in Peru, New York.5,6,7 He married Hannah Cobb, daughter of Capt. Joshua Cobb and Hannah Edgerton.8,9,10,11 Stephen and Hannah moved to Genesee Co., in western New York, by 1830, where her sister Drusilla and her husband were apparently already living.14 (See map.)
     Stephen appeared on the 1830 Federal Census of Gainesville, Genesee Co., New York, with a household consisting of one male under age 5 (son Henry), one age 5 to 10, and one age 30 to 40 (Stephen), one female age 10 to 15, and one aged 30 to 40 (wife Hannah Cobb.)15
     Perhaps after living briefly in Vermont, where their daughter Emily was born, Stephen and Hannah moved to Crawford Co., in north-western Pennsylvania. Her sister Drusilla and her husband, who they had lived near in New York, had apparently already moved there.16,17 Stephen and Hannah appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Conneaut Twp., Crawford Co., Pennsylvania, enumerated 10 Sep 1850, reporting real estate valued at $1,600. Their children Henry, Wheeler and Emily were listed as living with them.2
     Stephen and Hannah appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Conneautville, Crawford Co., Pennsylvania, enumerated 23 Jun 1860, reporting real estate valued at $3,000 and personal estate of $1,254. Listed with them are two farm laborers, Edward Dorchester, age 20, and Sylvester Dorchester, age 21.3
     Stephen and Hannah appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Conneautville, Crawford Co., Pennsylvania, enumerated 20 Jun 1870, reporting real estate valued at $3,000. W. J. Miller, a farmer age 30, and Clarce Miller, age 21 and apparently his wife, are listed as living with them.18
     He was a farmer.2,3,18
     Stephen died on 28 Nov 1871 in Lineville, Crawford Co., Pennsylvania, at age 73.12 He was buried in Conneaut Center Cemetery, Conneautville, Crawford Co., Pennsylvania.13
