     She moved to Brighton, New York, with her parents between 1830 and 1840.15 She was probably one of the two females age 5 to 10 listed in the household of his father in the 1840 Federal Census of Brighton, Monroe Co., New York.16
     Her father died on 16 May 1848, when Jane was 18 years old.17,18,19 Jane appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Brighton, Monroe Co., New York, in the household of her mother, Abigail W. Nichols.20
     She appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo Co., Michigan, in the household of her half-brother James and his wife, Helen W. McCall. She reported personal estate of $1,200.21
