In 1898 he was advertising as the proprietor of the Seymour Bicycle Factory, offering to make repairs and make new bicycles to order. He claimed "10 years practical experience in the manufacture of bicycles."

7,8,9 The Seymour Bicycle Factory proved to be a short-lived enterprise, and Nels was seeking other opportunities. By the spring of 1899 he was advertising in his own name "First-Class Bicycle Repairing" and offering a full line of tires and sundries, and to make "new wheels" (that is, bicycles) to order. In May he was advertising "lawn movers ground and repaired" at his machine shop. By October he was advertising that he could nickel plate stoves, or do gold or silver plating.
