Narrative:

Ole Eric Erstad was born on 29 Feb 1860 Øksendal Parish, Romsdalens amt (now Møre og Romsdal county), Norway.4,5,6 Ole was baptized on 22 Apr 1860 in Øksendal ParishG.11
     He was born as Ole Eriksen. Surnames were not commonly used in Norway at the time, and his family, like most, used as a "last name" a patronymic, or name based on the father's first name. Ole, like many of his family, adopted the surname Erstand, which is believed to be the name of the farm where they lived when he immigrated to the United States.11,12 He is sometimes known by the "farm name" Ole Eriksen Erstad.
     Ole appeared on the 1865 Census of Øksendal Parish, Norway, in the household of his parents Erik Olsen and Gjertrud Ingebrigtsdatter.13
     Ole immigrated about 1885 to South DakotaG and may have been naturalized, but records on that are conflicting.14,15,16,17
     Ole married Marie S. Rudy, daughter of Selfest Rudy and Mary Olson, about 1887.7,8,9 He was a farmer, operating a dairy farm.18,19,20,21
     Ole and Marie appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Cathlapoodle, Clark Co., Washington G, enumerated 15 Jun 1900, reporting that the family owned its farm, which was mortgaged. Their children Mable, Clara, Edwin, Oscar, Anna, and Inga were listed as living with them.22
     Ole and Marie appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Cathlapoodle, Clark Co., Washington G, enumerated 26 Apr 1910, reporting that the family owned its farm, free of mortgage. Their children Mable, Clara, Edwin, Oscar, Anna, Inga, George, and Selma were listed as living with them.23
     Ole and Marie appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Cathlapoodle, Clark Co., Washington G, enumerated 19 Jan 1920, reporting that the family owned its farm, which was mortgaged. Their children Oscar, Inga, George, and Selma were listed as living with them.24
     His wife died on 16 Aug 1929 in La Center, Clark Co., WashingtonG.25
     Ole appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of La Center, Clark Co., Washington G, enumerated 16 Apr 1930, reporting that the family owned their farm, and had a radio. His children Oscar and Selma were listed as living with him.26
     Ole died on 12 Jul 1932 in La Center, Clark Co., WashingtonG, at age 72.10
