Nancy, working with Ron Redmond and Shirlee Edwards, conceived and executed the Watauga County Summit on Youth held on June 19, 2006.
The Summit attacted over 100 interested persons, including the mayor of Boone, members of the Boone Town Council and County Commission, and heads and staff members of all the major agencies addressing youth issues in the county, interested members of the public, and a number of young people.
After a keynote address by Jolie Bain Pillsbury, nationally known advisor on youth issues, and review of issues, participants joined groups to address issues they choose to address. The groups reported committed to continue their efforts over the following weeks.
