Narrative:

His given name may well have been Elkanah Winchester. The only source found that attempts so spell his first name seems to show it as Elhanin, but Elkanah was a name often used in the family. But he seems to have universally used the name Winchester, or simply Win, as an adult.1,15 E. Winchester Cobb was born on 28 May 1822 in Pennsylvania.8,9,10
He was probably one of the two males age 5 to10 listed in the household of his father, Derrick Cobb, in the 1830 Federal Census of Wyalusing, Bradford Co., Pennsylvania.16 He was probably one of the two males age 15 to 20 listed in the household of his father in the 1840 Federal Census of Wyalusing, Bradford Co., Pennsylvania.17

Winchester and Charlotte Blakeslee appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Pike, Bradford Co., Pennsylvania, enumerated 3 Oct 1850, reporting real estate valued at $1,000. Their children Olive and Raymond were listed as living with them.2 They seem to have been living close to his supposed brother, Perry, and his wife, as they are listed two households previously on the census record.18
Winchester and Charlotte appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Stevensville, Bradford Co., Pennsylvania, enumerated 25 Jun 1860, reporting real estate valued at $2,000 and personal estate of $810. Their children Olive, Raymond, Charles and Philinda were listed as living with them, as was E. W. Beeman, age 41, a boatman. They seem to have been living close to his parents as they are listed two households before on the census record.19
He and Charlotte appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Rushville, Bradford Co., Pennsylvania, enumerated 28 Jul 1870, reporting real estate valued at $10,000 and personal estate of $4,475. Their children Olive, Raymond and Charles were listed as living with them, as was Cynthia Beeman, his mother.20
