     Lera R. Simons was born on 18 Apr 1889 in Milton, Pennsylvania.7,8,9 She appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Milton, Northumberland Co., Pennsylvania, in the household of her parents, John Henry Simons and Mary Catharine Riegel.4
     Lera married first Franklin Gold Redcay, son of Abraham Redcay and Susanna Gold, on 28 Jan 1918 at the Methodist parsonage in Elmira, Chemung Co., New York, with Rev. Albert E. Legg officianting.10,11,12 They traveled to Elmira, about 100 miles north of Milton were both lived, to keep their marriage secret. But a week later a traveling salesman from there stopped in the shop where he worked and congratulated him, exposing the secret.10
     Lera and Franklin appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Milton, Northumberland Co., Pennsylvania, in the household of Abraham Redcay and Susanna Gold, his parents.19
