Narrative:

Violetta Riegel was born on 18 Feb 1844 in Milton, Northumberland Co., Pennsylvania.8,9,10
She appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Turbut Twp., Northumberland Co., Pennsylvania, in the household of her parents, Jacob K. Riegel and Christiana Ohl.20
Her father died on 13 Sep 1857, when Violetta was 13 years old.21 Violetta appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Milton, Northumberland Co., Pennsylvania, in the household of John Hoffa, a successful farmer, his wife Sarah, and their three children, who were neighbors of her family. Also in the household were two farm hands. Her younger sister Christiana was apparently living close by, as the family she was living with was listed next.22
Violetta married Thomas Imel, son of Christian Imel and Marie Schuster, on 12 Nov 1863.11,12,13
Violetta and Thomas moved their family to King City, Missouri, a small town some 30 miles north east of St. Joseph, between 1876 and 1880. They appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Jackson Twp., Gentry Co., Missouri, at King City, enumerated 11 Jun 1880. Their children George, John, Elmer, Ida, Ira and Noma were listed as living with them.23
Violetta and Thomas moved their family into the city of St. Joseph by 1887. His brother Peter and his wife moved there about the same time.24,25
Violetta was named an heir in the will of Christiana Ohl, her mother, dated 19 May 1891, but received nothing when she died because all the assets were used to settle debts.26
Violetta seems to have visited her nephew Charles Weller Shurtz in King City, Missouri, in May 1898, after the death of his wife.27
Violetta and Thomas appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of St. Joseph, Buchanan Co., Missouri, at 633 Albemarle, enumerated 6 Jun 1900, reporting that the family owned its home, which was mortgaged. Their children Ira and Noma were listed as living with them.28
They appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of St. Joseph, Buchanan Co., Missouri, at 633 Albemarle, enumerated 30 Apr 1910, reporting that they owned their home, free of mortgage. His older brother, Peter, is listed as living with them.29
About 1916 Violetta and Thomas moved in with their daughter Noma and her husband, at 2919 Charles.30
Her husband died on 30 Jan 1917 in 2919 Charles St., St. Joseph, Buchanan Co., Missouri.31,32
Violetta appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of St. Joseph, Buchanan Co., Missouri, in the household of her daughter Noma and her husband, Frank Sanner.33
Violetta died on 31 Mar 1924 in Brooksale Presbyterian Church, St. Joseph, Buchanan Co., Missouri, at age 80, while attending an entertainment at the church, where she was a member. After she was stricken, a doctor was summoned and he pronounced her dead.14,15,16 She was buried on 3 Apr 1924 in Mt. Mora Cemetery, St. Joseph, Missouri, in her family's lot, after services at the family home and a private graveside service.17,18,19
