Research Note:
Harold Wiest, who has researched the Wiest family extensively, reports that Johann's ancestor Franz Wiest was born in 1772 in the Rheinpfalz in Germany and moved to Rohrbach, South Russia in 1809. A number of Wiests, including Konrad (born about 1828) and his wife, Eva Marie Strasser (born about 1829), believed to be Johann's parents, left Rohrbach and moved to Friedrichsfeld when that colony was established in 1885.18
