Narrative:

George Henry Stumpf was born on 24 Oct 1880 in Washington, Illinois.7,8 He appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Washington Twp., Tazewell Co., Illinois, in the household of his parents, Henry G. Stumpf and Victoria Geltmaker.13
George married Margaret Anne Oetzel, daughter of Adam Oetzel and Caroline Glabe, about 1907.9,10,11,12
George and Margaret appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Washington Twp., Tazewell Co., Illinois, enumerated 21 Apr 1910, reporting they were renting their farm. Her mother and siblings were apparently living close by, as they are listed immediately preceding.14
George registered for the draft for World War I on 12 Sep 1918, while living at Washington, Tazewell Co., Illinois, reporting he was employed as Washington Milling Company, a mill and elevator company in Washington.1
George and Margaret appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Washington, Tazewell Co., Illinois, enumerated 5 Jan 1920, reporting that they owned their home, free of mortage. Their daughter Verla was listed as living with them, as was his father, Henry G. Stumpf.4
George and Margaret appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Washington, Tazewell Co., Illinois, on Jefferson St., enumerated 3 Apr 1930, reporting that they owned a home valued at $3,000, and owned a radio. Their daughter Verla was listed as living with them, as was her sister, Clara M. Oetzel.15
He was a farmer in 1910, but by 1920 was working as a laborer in a mill and elevator. By 1930 he was a salesman for a grain elevator, but was apparently a laborer again later in life.16,17,18,19
George died on 11 Mar 1938 in Washington, Tazewell Co., Illinois, at age 57.5 He was buried on 14 Mar 1938 in Glendale Cemetery, Washington, Tazewell Co., Illinois.5

Children:
     Children with Margaret Anne Oetzel

George and Margaret's daughter may have been adopted. She was apparently their only child, and wasn't born until 11 years after George and Margaret were married. The 1920, 1940 adn 1950 censuses show her birth in Missouri while the 1930 census shows her birth in Kansas but all evidence suggests George and Margaret never lived outside of Washington. Lee Pound, while visiting family members in the area in the 1967, was told George and Margaret had no children even though Verla and her husband were living in Washington. Her obituary makes no mention of her parents.20,21,22,23,24
