     Emily and William appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Steele Twp., Daviess Co., Indiana, enumerated 19 Jun 1900, reporting they owned their farm. Their son Eugene was listed as living with them, as were two farm laborer, identified as boarders, James M. Gee, age 23, and John Eagle, age 16.10
     Emily and William appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Steele Twp., Daviess Co., Indiana, enumerated 20 Apr 1910, reporting that they owned their farm, which was mortgaged. Their children Eugene and Opal were listed as living with them, as was his mother, Mary Jett.11
     Emily and William moved to Montana between 1915 and 1920. They appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Miles, Custer Co., Montana, enumerated 19 Jan 1920, reporting that they were renting their home. Their children Eugene, Opal and Clarence were listed as living with them.12
     Emily and William returned to Indiana before 1930. They appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Steele Twp., Daviess Co., Indiana, enumerated 14 Apr 1930, reporting they owned a farm valued at $9,000, and did not own a radio. Their children Opal and Clarence were listed as living with them.13
     Her husband died on 16 Mar 1931 in Plaineville, Daviess Co., Indiana.14
     Emily appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of New Albany Twp., Floyd Co., Indiana, in the household of her son Clarence and his wife Dorothy. She and her son reported they had been living in Salem, Washington Co. in 1935, while his wife had been living in New Albany Twp.15
     She was a beauty operator, operating a beauty parlor, after her husband's death. In 1940 she reported she had worked 40 hours the last week of March, and had worked 52 weeks the prior year, earning $1,800. Her daughter-in-law, wife of her son Clarence, was also working as a beauty operator, presumably in Emily's business.15
