     Eugene Irvin Daffern was born on 19 Nov 1898 in Plaineville, Daviess Co., Indiana.8,9,10,11
     He appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Steele Twp., Daviess Co., Indiana, in the household of his parents, William Grant Daffern and Emily J. Burch.5 He appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Steele Twp., Daviess Co., Indiana, in the household of his parents.19
     He moved to Montana between 1915 and 1920 with his parents.
     Eugene married first Catherine Frances Kittinger, daughter of J. F. Kittinger and Nellie Duffy, on 17 Jun 1918 in Miles City, Custer Co., Montana, with Justice of the Peace W. P. Welch officiating.12,13
     Eugene registered for the draft for World War I on 12 Sep 1918, while living at Kimball, Custer Co., Montana, reporting he was employed as a farmer.3 He appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Miles, Custer Co., Montana, in the household of his parents.20
     Eugene and Catherine were divorced before 1925.14 He returned to Indiana before 1925, presumably when his parents did.
     Eugene married second LaVerna Elizabeth Glabe, daughter of Harvey Sebastian Glabe and Nettie Lou Bess, on 20 Jun 1925 in Washington, Daviess Co., Indiana.15,16,17
     Eugene and LaVerna appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of New Albany, Floyd Co., Indiana, at 202 Market, enumerated 9 Apr 1930, reporting they rented their home for $30 per month.21
     Eugene and LaVerna moved between 1935 and 1940 from New Albany, which is directly across the Ohio River from Louisville, Kentucky, some 10 miles west to Georgetown.22 They appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Georgetown Twp., Floyd Co., Indiana, enumerated 15 May 1940, reporting they owned a home valued at $4,000.23
     He was a carman on a rail road in 1920, and a junior high school teacher by 1930.24,25 In the 1940 census he reported that he had worked 40 hours the last week of March, and had worked 30 weeks the previous year, earning $1,000.23
     Eugene and LaVerna had moved to Burbank, California by 1949, when they were living at 1420 Ontario.26 In California Eugene pursued a number of occupations. In 1949 he was a salesman at a retail insulation company, reporting in the 1950 census he had worked 60 hours the prior week. By 1952 he was carpenter, and in 1953 he was a plumber.27,28
     Eugene and LaVerna appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of Burbank, Los Angeles Co., California, at 1420 Buena Vista, enumerated 20 Apr 1950, reporting they lived in a home that was not on a farm. Their daughter was listed as living with them.29
     Eugene and LaVerna had moved to Riverside, California by 1955, when they were living at 2725 Tyler.30 In Riverside he taught at Sherman Institute, later called Sherman Indian High School. It is an off-reservation boarding high school for Native Americans operated by the Bureau of Indian Education/Bureau of Indian Affairs.31,32
     Eugene died on 30 Jun 1970 in Multnomah Co., Oregon, at age 71.18
