Narrative:

     Catharine Stewart was born on 6 Oct 1855.6,7,8
     She appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Washington Co., Illinois, in the household of her parents, Lewis K. Stewart and Lucina Cason.14
     Her father died on 13 Feb 1862, killed in the battle of Fort Donelson, when Catharine was 6 years old.15,16
     After the death of her father she moved with her mother to Jasper Co., where members of her father's family were living.
     She appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Willow Hill Twp., Jasper Co., Illinois, in the household of her mother, Lucina Cason.17
     Her mother died on 4 May 1873, when Catharine was 17 years old.18
     Her mother had been receiving a widow's pension based on her late husband's Civil War service, which ended with her death. On 9 Jun 1873 Catharine's uncle, Sanford C. Stewart, applied as guardian for a minor's pension based on her late father's service. The pension was subsequently approved. Details have not been found, but presumably it was for the benefit of Catharine and her three sisters.19
     Catharine married first Joshua Barnet Terhune, son of James B. Terhune and Martha M. Cobb, on 9 Feb 1876 in Jasper Co., Illinois.9
     Her husband died on 29 Jan 1879 in Willow Hill, Jasper Co., Illinois.20,21,22
     Catharine appeared with her daughters Lucy and Edith, on the 1880 Federal Census of New Liberty, Jasper Co., Illinois, in the household of Sanford C. Stewart and Elizabeth Jones, her uncle and his second wife.23
     Catharine married second John Henry Longsdorff on 19 Jul 1883 in Jasper Co., Illinois.10,11
     Catharine died on 13 Apr 1895 at age 39.12 She was buried in Mound Cemetery, Hunt City, Jasper Co., Illinois.13
