     William Edward Perkins was born on 18 Sep 1885 in Halifax Co., Virginia.5,6,7
     His mother died between 1887 and 1900.12 William and his sister Eliza appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Roanoke, Halifax Co., Virginia, in the household of Mary E. Britton, their late mother's sister.13
     He was reported to be attending school at age 14, when he was living with his aunt, but in the 1940 census he reported the second grade was the highest he completed, and in 1942 he signed his draft registration with an "X."14,15,16
     He generally used his middle name, Edward, as an adult.17,18,19
     William appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Roanoke, Halifax Co., Virginia, enumerated 3 May 1910, in the household of Mary Brown and her sister, listed as a hired man.20
     William married Katie B. Conner, daughter of James Richard Conner and Sallie Ragland Watts, about 1919.8,9,10
     William and Katie appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Halifax Co., Virginia, enumerated 30 Jan 1920, reporting they rented their home.18
     William and Katie appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Halifax Co., Virginia, on County Road no 12, enumerated 15 Apr 1930, reporting they owned their farm, and did not own a radio.21
     William and Katie appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Halifax Co., Virginia, enumerated 8 Apr 1940, reporting they owned a home valued at $600, and that they had lived in the same house in 1935. Louise Ferrell, age 9 and shown as his second cousin-in-law, was listed as living with them.19
     He was a farm laborer by 1910. He was operating his own farm by 1920. He reported in 1940 that he had worked 48 hours the last week of March, and 50 weeks the prior year.22,23,24,25
     William registered for the draft for World War II on 27 Apr 1942, while living at Newbill School, Halifax Co., Virginia, reporting he was self employed.2
     William died on 26 Jun 1958 in South Boston, Halifax Co., Virginia, at age 72.3,11 He was buried on 28 Jun 1958 in Mt. Laurel Church Cemetery, Clover, Halifax Co., Virginia.3
