Narrative:

Mary W. Cobb was born on 16 Feb 1791 in Pawlet, Rutland Co., Vermont.6,7
She moved with her parents to Wells, the next town north of Pawlet, by 1792.12,13
Her father died on 10 Aug 1795, when Mary was 4 years old.14,15,16 She was probably one of the two females under age 10 listed in the household of her mother, Mary Willard, in the 1800 Federal Census of Pawlet, Rutland Co., Vermont.17
We do not know when Mary moved to Decatur Co., Indiana, where she married. Her brothers Joshua and Willard had moved there as early as 1820, but she does not seem to be listed in the 1820 or 1830 census of either of them. (See map.)
Mary married Rev. John Butterfield on 18 Nov 1834 in Decatur Co., Indiana, with Rev. W. M. Daily officiating.8,9
Mary and John settled at his home in Morgan Co. after their marriage. She was probably the female age 40 to 50 listed in the household of her husband, Rev. John Butterfield, in the 1840 Federal Census of Morgan Co., Indiana. It appears her mother, Mary Willard, was also in the household.18
Mary and John appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Clay Twp., Morgan Co., Indiana, enumerated 17 Oct 1850, reporting real estate valued at $10,000. His son Oliver was listed as living with them, as were Lucinda Lawer, age 19, Rebecca Langley and Robert Stafford, both age 21, and George Sleeper, age 14, whose relationships with them, if any, are unknown.19
Mary died on 25 Jan 1859 at age 67.10 She was buried in the Old Butterfield Cemetery, Centerton, Morgan Co., Indiana.11
