Henry Lander was born in 1794 in Kentucky.5,6,7
Henry volunteered as a private in the War of 1812 on 1 Aug 1813 at Winchester, Clark Co., Kentucky, for a term of three months. He served in Capt. James Simpson's company of the Kentucky Mounted Volunteers commanded by Col. John Donaldson, for about 73 days.13,14 He received an honorable discharge 2 Nov 1813 at Maysville, Kentucky.13
Henry married first Nancy Brasfield, daughter of Wiley B. Brasfield and Elizabeth Berry, on 10 Dec 1818 in Clark Co., Kentucky, with James Quesenbery officiating.8,9
Henry appeared on the 1820 Federal Census of Clark Co., Kentucky, with a household consisting of one white male age 26 to 45 (himself), one white females under age 10 (unknown), and one age 26 to 45 (wife Nancy). There were also two slaves, a male under age 14 and a female age 14 to 26.15 Henry also appeared on the 1820 Federal Census of Trigg Co., Kentucky, with the same count of household members. His is the last entry for that county, suggesting he may have just moved there. The dates of enumberation were not recorded for the 1820 census so we do not know when the two entries were made.16
Henry appeared on the 1830 Federal Census of Trigg Co., Kentucky, with a household consisting of one male under age 5 (unknown), one age 5 to 10 (unknown), and one age 30 to 40 (himself), one female under age 5 (unknown), and one age 30 to 40 (wife Nancy).      His wife died about 1832 in Trigg Co., Kentucky.18,19
A marriage bond was posted for Henry and Elizabeth Pursley on 18 Nov 1833 in Trigg Co., Kentucky. No return was posted in the record, but they were apparently subsequently married as they are recorded as husband and wife in later records.1,10,11
Henry appeared on the 1840 Federal Census of Trigg Co., Kentucky, with a household consisting of one male under age 5 (son Henry), one age 5 to 10 (unknown), one age 10 to 15 (unknown), and one age 40 to 50 (himself), one female under age 5 (daughter Susan), one age 5 to 10 (Letitia), two age 10 to 15 (unknown), and one age 30 to 40 (wife Elizabeth).      He was a farmer in Kentucky.23,24,25
Henry and Elizabeth moved to Illinois before 1855, where they operated a boarding house.26
