     Richard Hargraves was born on 18 Dec 1868 in Parsons, Pennsylvania.5,6,7
     Richard appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Plymouth Twp., Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania, enumerated 11 Jun 1880, in the household of Oliver and Mary Civler, his sister and her husband, with his brothers Edward, age 14, and John, age 9.10
     Richard married Mary E. Cromer on 19 May 1893 in Salem Twp., Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania, with M. E. Walker officiating.8,9
     Richard and Mary appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Shickshinny, Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania, at 2 Chestnut St., enumerated 1 Jun 1900, reporting that they rented their home. Their children Needa and Walter were listed as living with them.3
     No record of Mary has been found after the birth of their fourth child in 1903. She is not listed with her husband and the children in the 1910 or 1920 censuses, though he is shown as married in both. She as not been found elsewhere, nor has another marriage record or a death record been found. Her husband is shown as widowed in the 1930 census.11,12,13
     Richard appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Shickshinny, Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania, at Rock View Ave., enumerated 6 May 1910, reporting that he rented his home. His children Walter, Charles and William were listed as living with him, as was Deliah H. Karney, 41 years old, listed as a servant.14
     Richard appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Shickshinny, Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania, at 46 Bear Alley, enumerated 8 Jan 1920, reporting that he rented his home. His son William was listed as living with him.15
     Richard appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Shickshinny, Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania, in the household of his son Charles and his wife Liona, at 46 Nicely St.16 His son William and his family were listed as living across the street.17
     He was a slate picker, who picked pieces of rock out of coal in a processing facility, at age 11, along with his 14 and 9-year old brothers. He was later a laborer in a coal mine.18,19,20,21,22,23
     Richard died on 12 Jun 1934 in Middle Paxton Twp., Dauphin Co., Pennsylvania, at age 65.4 He was buried on 14 Jun 1934 in Shickshinny, Pennsylvania.4
