Narrative:

Jesse Bryant Ipock was born on 19 Feb 1889 in Seymour, Webster Co., Missouri.9,10,11,12
He appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Hazelwood Twp., Webster Co., Missouri, in the household of his parents, Joseph B. Ipock and Nancy Jane Copley.4
His mother died on 24 Mar 1904, when Jesse was 15 years old.16
He appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Hazelwood Twp., Webster Co., Missouri, in the household of his father and stepmother, Saphrona Denney.17 He also appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Pleasant Valley Twp., Wright Co., Missouri, enumerated 20 Apr 1910, in the household of Jason and Julia Matney and their three sons, some 14 miles away. He was listed there as a hired man.18
Jesse married Alice Matilda Reigle, daughter of William David Riegel and Mary J. Quakenbush, on 8 Jul 1912 in Wister, LeFlore Co., Oklahoma, with Rev. J. D. Craftree, Baptist minister, officiating.13,14,15
Where Jesse and Alice were living after their marriage is unclear. Each was living in Missouri in 1910, but they both reported they were living in Wister, Oklahoma, when they married. How they came to be living there is a mystery, though it seems possible she was anxious to escape the disruption caused by her father's incarceration six months before. Where they lived afterwards is equally unclear. Various records show their four earliest children as born in Missouri, Texas, and in Oklahoma.19,20,21 One of the more credible record shows their second son, born in Jan 1917, as born in Hartshorne, Oklahoma, some 50 miles west of Wister. However Jesse, at least was clearly back in Missouri by June of that year.22,23
Jesse registered for the draft for World War I on 5 Jun 1917, while living in Seymour, Missouri, reporting he was employed as a farmer in Seymour.24
Jesse and Alice appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Mountain Grove, Wright Co., Missouri, enumerated 7 Jan 1920, reporting that they owned their home, which was mortgaged. Their children Everett, Lester and Opal were listed as living with them.25
Sometime between 1920 and 1930 Jesse dropped his surname and adopted his middle name as a surname, being known after that as Jessie B. Bryant. He, his wife, and their children then used the surname Bryant in all contexts, including curiously, even ascribing it to his parents on his death certificate. This seems to have been based on hard feelings about his father, according to some accounts at least in part because his father left his property to his second wife.26,27,28,29,30
Jesse and Alice moved with their children to Texas by 1929. They appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Comal Co., Texas, on a pasture road to Blener Highway No. 46, enumerated 17 Apr 1930, reporting that they rented their home, and did not own a radio. Their children Everett, Lester, Opal and Ruby were listed as living with them.26
Jesse and Alice appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Wimberley, Hays Co., Texas, at Dripping Springs & Glin Rd, enumerated 27 Apr 1940, reporting that they rented their home for $10 per month, and had lived in the same county in 1935. Their children Lester, Opal, Ruby and Nellie were listed as living with them.31
He was a farmer all his life, selling produce in local markets. He also operated a cedar post business, making fence posts and selling them from his farm.32,33,34,35,36,37 He reported in 1940 that he had worked 56 hours the last week of March, and had worked 52 weeks the prior year, earning $400, and reporting in the 1950 census he had worked 54 hours the prior week.38,27
Jesse and Alice appeared on the 1950 Federal Census of Hays Co., Texas, on San Antonio Highway, enumerated 20 Apr 1950, reporting they lived in a home that was not on a farm.27
His wife died on 15 Jun 1973 in San Marcos, Hays Co., Texas.39
Jesse died on 17 Jan 1981 in San Marcos, Hays Co., Texas, at age 91.8 He was buried on 19 Jan 1981 in San Marcos City Cemetery, San Marcos, Hays Co., Texas.8
