     William married first Alice Nancy Cobb, daughter of Oliver Perry Cobb and Caroline S. Foulke, on 29 Jun 1876 in Dearborn Co., Indiana, with Rev. Charles Ayer, Baptist minister, officiating in a joint ceremony with her sister Martha.9,10,11
     William and Alice appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Aurora, Dearborn Co., Indiana, enumerated 1 Jun 1880. Their son Jesse was listed as living with them, as was Lucinda Brakhage, a 17-year-old servant.21
     He was a lawyer. His practice included pursuing the Civil War claims of his Cobb in-laws against the U.S. Government.22,23,24,25
     William was named executor and an heir in the will of his wife dated 16 Sep 1892 in Aurora, Dearborn Co., Indiana, in which she left all her property to him.26
     His wife died on 27 Oct 1896.27
     William appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Aurora, Dearborn Co., Indiana, enumerated 1 Jun 1900, reporting he owned his home, free of mortgage. His children Harland and Alice were listed as living with him, as was Mary Sanger, a 19-year-old servant.28

     William married second Rosanna Brown, daughter of A. B. Brown and Zerelda Jane Jennings, on 3 Jul 1909 in Louisville, Kentucky, with William M. Bruce officiating.12,13,14
     William left a will dated 27 Oct 1909, beginning with this preamble:
My children having married to my approval, and having established for themselves happy homes in distant cities, and they having formed new ties, and I feeling the need of companionship and the care incident to advancing years, and being entirely alone and shattered in health, have taken to myself a wife; and appreciating the great sacrifice made by my wife in forming this union with me, and loving her devotedly, I desire to make for her the best provision in my power for her care, out of my small estate...
     He then left his new wife all the real estate he owned within the city of Aurora except the house and lot on Sunny-Side Ave., which had been given to his first wife by her father. He also left her the 27-acre homestead in Center Twp. known as "Veraestau" that had been left him by his father, all his personal property except what he specifically left his children, and all money he had or was owed to him.
     He left his son Harland his law books and items in his office, his clothing, two guns, his silver watch from his father, and cancelled any notes he held from him. He left his daughter Alice her grandmother's ring and her mother's sewing machine. He left to both children an equal share in the house on Sunny-Side Ave., all his books at the homestead, his father's family Bible, and all the family pictures and portraits they wanted. He appointed his former law partner L. E. Davies as executor.29
     He amended his previous will with a codicil dated 29 Dec 1909, in which he clarified that his wife had full right to sell or mortgage all the property he left her.30
     William and Rosanna appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Center Twp., Dearborn Co., Indiana, on Hobocken Ridge, enumerated 26 Apr 1910, reporting they owned their home, free of mortgage.31
     William died on 30 May 1910 in Aurora, Dearborn Co., Indiana, at age 59.15,16 He was buried on 2 Jun 1910 in River View Cemetery, Aurora, Dearborn Co., Indiana.17,18
     His will was proved on 8 Jun 1910 in Dearborn Co., Indiana.32
