Narrative:

     Catharine Goembel was born on 10 Apr 1813 in Niederaula, Kurfuerstentum Hessen.3,4,5 Catharine was baptized on 18 Apr 1813 in Niederaula.3 She was baptized as Catharina Gömbel, but in the U. S. she used the spelling Catharine Goembel.3,1,2
     She arrived in New Orleans with her parents, Sebastian Goembel and Anna Eva Schaeffer, on 2 Jun 1834, aboard the Ernst and Gustav, having departed Bremen.11,12,13 The family traveled up the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers to Ft. Clark (now Peoria, Illinois), and settled in Washington Twp., Tazewell Co., Illinois.14,15
     Catharine married John Minch on 27 Apr 1837 in Washington Twp., Tazewell Co., Illinois.6,7,8
     Catharine and John appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Tazewell Co., Illinois, enumerated 4 Oct 1850, reporting real estate valued at $1,200. Their children Catherine, Polly, Jacob, Sebastian, Henry, George and John were listed as living with them.16
     Catharine and John appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Washington Twp., Tazewell Co., Illinois, enumerated 14 Jun 1860, reporting real estate valued at $9,600 and personal estate of $1,000. Their children Polly, Jacob, Sebastian, Henry, George, John, William, Daniel and Philip were listed as living with them.17
     Catharine and John appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Washington Twp., Tazewell Co., Illinois, enumerated 29 Jun 1870, reporting real estate valued at $26,000 and person estate of $1,800. Their children William, Daniel and Philip were listed as living with them, as were Anna Gill, age 10, relationship unknown, and Joseph Swisher, a 25-year-old farm laborer.18
     By 1880 John had retired and he and Catharine moved into town.19 She and John appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Washington Twp., Tazewell Co., Illinois, enumerated 19 Jun 1880. Their daughter Polly was listed as living with them.20
     Her husband died on 28 Sep 1889.21,22
     Catharine appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Washington, Tazewell Co., Illinois, on Oak St., enumerated 13 Jun 1900, reporting that she owned her home, free of mortgage. Her daughter Amelia was listed as living with her, as was her grandson Carl R. Minch.23
     Catharine died on 14 Feb 1901 at age 87.9 She was buried in Glendale Cemetery, Washington, Tazewell Co., Illinois.10
