Narrative:

     Hellen Ellie Cobb was born on 4 Oct 1814 in Pennsylvania.6,7,8 She moved to Aurora, Indiana, in 1819 with her parents.15 She was probably one of the two females under age 10 listed in the household of her father in the 1820 Federal Census of Laughery, Dearborn Co., Indiana.16 She was probably the female age 10 to 15 listed in the household of her father in the 1830 Federal Census of Decatur Co., Indiana, thought she was actually 16 at the time.17 She was probably the female age 20 to 30 listed in the household of her father, Joshua Cobb, in the 1840 Federal Census of Decatur Co., Indiana.18
     Hellen married John Hamilton Elder on 17 Feb 1842 in Decatur Co., Indiana.9,10,11
     Hellen and John Hamilton Elder appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Marion Twp., Decatur Co., Indiana, enumerated 25 Oct 1850, reporting real estate valued at $2000. Their children Dyer, James, John and Mary were listed as living with them.19
     Hellen and John appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Marion Twp., Decatur Co., Indiana, enumerated 6 Aug 1860, reporting real estate valued at $5300 and personal estate of $1500. Their children Dyer, James, John and Mary were listed as living with them.20
     She and John appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Newpoint, Decatur Co., Indiana, enumerated 22 Jun 1870, reporting real estate valued at $6800 and personal estate of $1100. Their son James was listed as living with them, as was Alice Oren, age 15, who may have been an unknown relative, or a servant.21
     Hellen appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Washington Twp., Decatur Co., Indiana, in the household of Perry S. Tremain and Mary M. Elder, her daughter, and her husband. Her son, James, as also listed in the household.22
     Hellen died on 7 Mar 1884 at age 69.12,13 She was buried in Sand Creek Cemetery, Greensburg, Indiana, in the oldest section, in a row with Joshua and Nancy's other children.14
