Narrative:

     James Cross White was born on 21 Feb 1877 in Trenton, Kentucky.6,7,8
     His father died in Apr 1880, when James was 3 years old.15,16 He appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Trenton, Todd Co., Kentucky, in the household of his mother, Modena A. Clark.4
     James appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Evansville, Vanderburgh Co., Indiana, in the household of his sister Martha and her husband, James Young Cabaniss, where his mother was also living.17
     He was a bookkeeper in Indiana, remaining there until about 1906, still he was living with his sister and her husband.18,19
     His whereabouts in the following years are unknown. He has not been found in the 1910 census. The next record of him is in the 1916 city directory of Dallas, Texas, when he was living at 715 Hillcrest. He is listed as a salesman for S. F. Bower & Co., manufacturers of self-measuring oil tanks and pumps used to dispense gasoline and other oil products. He continued with that firm, and living at that address, until about 1918.20
     James registered for the draft for World War I on 12 Sep 1918, while living at 715 Hillcrest, Dallas, Dallas Co., Texas, reporting he was a self-employed farmer.3
     He has not been found in the 1920 census. He appeared in the 1924 city directory at 3510 Swiss Ave., working as a salesman for the Wayne Tank & Pump Co., manufacturers of similar equipment. By 1925 he was as salesman for Tokheim Oil Tank and Pump Co., yet another manufacturer of that equipment.21
     James married Irene Heath, daughter of Howell C. Heath and Elizabeth B. Trigg, about 1927 in Dallas, Texas.9,10,11
     James and Irene moved to Houston by 1929, when they were living at 1400 Bonnie Brae Ave.22,23 They appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Houston, Harris Co., Texas, at 1400 Bonnie Brae Ave., enumerated 5 Apr 1930, reporting they were renting their home, for $80 per month, and did not own a radio. Two railroad solicitors, George Harrigen and John Weberlz, were listed as roomers in their home.24
     In Houston James was the manager of the White-Tucker company, dealers of service station equipment. He continued to manage that business until about 1935.25,26
     James and Irene appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Houston, Harris Co., Texas, at 2037 Banks, enumerated 31 May 1940, reporting that they owned a home valued at $9,500, and had lived in the same city in 1935.27
     He was a vice president of Southwest Pump Co. by 1940. That year he reported that he had worked 44 hours the last week of March, and 52 weeks the prior year, earning $5,000.28,29
     James died on 4 Jul 1947 in Houston, Harris Co., Texas, at age 70.12,13 He was buried on 5 Jul 1947 in Rockwall Memorial Cemetery, Rockwall, Texas.14
