Narrative:

     Reuben Rice Cobb was born on 2 Jan 1811 in Pawlet, Rutland Co., Vermont.6,7
     He was probably one of the three males under age 10 listed in the household of his father, Capt. Willard Cobb, in the 1820 Federal Census of Wells, Rutland Co., Vermont.15
     He moved to Indiana with his parents about 1827.16 He was probably one of the three males age 15 to 20 listed in the household of his father in the 1830 Federal Census of Decatur Co., Indiana.17
     He was a farmer all his working life.18,19,20,21,22
     Reuben married Amazetta H. Morgan, daughter of James Morgan and Elizabeth S. McCoy, on 22 Mar 1842 in Decatur Co., Indiana, with Rev. Lewis Hulbort officiating.8,9,10
     In an early effort to improve the roads in the county, the Greensburg and Napoleon Turnpike Co. was incorporated 24 Jan 1847, with Reuben as one of eleven directors.23
     Reuben and Amazetta appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Washington Twp., Decatur Co., Indiana, enumerated 7 Apr 1850, reporting real estate valued at $5,000. Their children Cassandra, Woodson and Mahaka were listed as living with them, as are William Hendrickson, age 13, and Susan Burrows, age 18, relationship unknown, and William B. Green, a laborer, age 22.3
     He was one of the contractors who built the Big Four railway from Lawrenceburg to Greensburg in 1853.24
     Reuben served a president of the Agricultural Society of Decatur Co., which held annual county fairs for many years. The 1858 fair, held during his term, was said to have been the greatest one up to that time.25
     Reuben and Amazetta appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Greensburg, Decatur Co., Indiana, enumerated 5 Jul 1860, reporting real estate valued at $31,300 and personal estate of $7,350. Their children Cassandra, Woodson and Mahaka were listed as living with them, as are Ida M. Chambers, age 4, relationship unknown, and Elizabeth Fredrick, age 22, a domestic.26
     Reuben and Amazetta appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Greensburg, Decatur Co., Indiana, enumerated 28 Jun 1870, with no real estate or personal estate recorded. Their son Mahaka was listed as living with them, as was Henry Sleth, age 20, a laborer. Their older son, Woodson, and his family seem to have been living close by as they was listed next.27
     The last few years of her life, Reuben and Amazetta spent winters in Florida for her health.28
     Reuben and Amazetta appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Washington Twp., Decatur Co., Indiana, enumerated 11 Jun 1880. Their son Woodson was listed as living with them, as were his wife Maranda Nancy Hillis, and their sons Alvin and Hillis.29 They also appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Tallahassee, Leon Co., Florida, on Adam St., enumerated 19 Jun 1880. Their son Mahaka was listed as living with them.30
     His wife died on 6 Jun 1881 in Greensburg, Indiana.31,32,33
     Reuben moved to Indianapolis after the death of his wife, to live with his daughter Cassandra and her husband.34
     Reuben died on 5 Jun 1897, at the home of his daugher Cassandra and her husband, 12 West North St., Indianapolis, Indiana, at age 86.11,12,13 He was buried in South Park Cemetery, Greensburg, Decatur Co., Indiana.14
