Narrative:

     William Francis Cobb was born on 24 Jul 1867 in Lyon Co., Kentucky.8,9,10 He was known to family and friends as Frank.16,17,18
     He appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Eddyville, Lyon Co., Kentucky, in the household of his parents, Thomas Jefferson Cobb and Almeda Glenn.19 He appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Eddyville, Kentucky in the household of his parents.6
     His father died on 22 Feb 1881, when William was 13 years old.20,21,22
     William moved to Leavenworth, Kansas, in 1887, and he and Ruth lived there after their marriage.23 William appeared on the 1895 State Census of Leavenworth, Leavenworth Co., Kansas, in the household of Samuel C. Garrett and Letitia W. Bowers, his cousin and his wife.24 He appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Leavenworth, Leavenworth Co., Kansas, in the household of his cousin Samuel and his wife Letitia.25
     William married Ruth U. Garrett, daughter of Joseph Henry Garrett and Susan Margaret Hawthorn, on 17 Oct 1900 in Princeton, Caldwell Co., Kentucky.11,12,13

     William and Ruth appeared on the 1905 State Census of Leavenworth, Leavenworth Co., Kansas, reporting that the family owned its home. Their son Thomas was listed as living with them, as was her mother, Susan Margaret Hawthorn, and Lucy Sulivan, a 27-year old servant.17
     William and Ruth appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Leavenworth, Leavenworth Co., Kansas, at 230 Second Ave., enumerated 21 Apr 1910, reporting that the family owned its home, which was mortgaged. Their children Thomas and Margaret were listed as living with them, as were his nephew, William Francis Cobb, and Elisabeth Butzina, a 20-year old servant.26
     William and Ruth appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Leavenworth, Leavenworth Co., Kansas, at 230 Second Ave., enumerated 5 Jan 1920, reporting that the family owned its home, free of mortgage. Their children Thomas and Margaret were listed as living with them, as was Sophia Timpe, a 26-year old servant.27
     William and Ruth appeared on the 1925 State Census of Leavenworth, Leavenworth Co., Kansas, at 230 Second Ave., reporting that they owned their home. Their children Thomas and Margaret were listed as living with them.
     William and Ruth appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Leavenworth, Leavenworth Co., Kansas, at 230 Second Ave., enumerated 10 Apr 1930, reporting that the family owned a home valued at $5,000 and had a radio. Their daughter Margaret was listed as living with them.3
     William and Ruth appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Leavenworth, Leavenworth Co., Kansas, at 230 Second Ave., enumerated 25 Apr 1940, reporting they owned a home valued at $9,500 and had lived in the same house in 1935. Their daughter Margaret was listed as living with them.28
     He was a bookkeeper in 1895, but had become a dry goods merchant by 1910. He was associated with the Garrett lumber yard and Alex Kirk grocery before becoming a partner of William Small & Co., a dry goods store. He was for many years president of the Citizens Mutual Building and Loan Association. Working there in 1940, he reported he had worked 44 hours the last week of March, and 52 weeks the prior year, earning $2,970.29,30,31,32,33,34
     William died on 22 Oct 1940 in Leavenworth, Kansas, at age 73.14 He was buried in Mount Muncie Cemetery, Lansing, Leavenworth Co., Kansas.15
