Narrative:

Giles Akin Cobb was born on 15 Mar 1857 in Lyon Co., Kentucky.8,9,10
He appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Eddyville, Caldwell Co., Kentucky, in the household of his parents, Thomas Jefferson Cobb and Almeda Glenn.19,20 He appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Eddyville, Lyon Co., Kentucky, in the household of his parents.21
He was named an executor in the will of his father, Thomas Jefferson Cobb, dated 14 Aug 1879, along with his brother, Henry, to advise their mother in her role as executrix, or to serve as alternates in the event of her death.22
He appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Eddyville, Kentucky in the household of his parents.23
On 11 Nov 1884 Giles bought the undivided interests of his brother Henry and his sister Mary in their father's home place for $600 each. He paid Mary and her husband $400 in cash, and two notes for $100 each, one due 1 Apr 1885 and the other a year later. They were recorded as paid off 17 Jan 1887. He paid Henry $100 in cash, a note for $150 due 1 Apr 1885, and a second for $350 due 1 Jan 1887. They were recorded as paid 28 May 1920.24 He bought the interest of his brother Jefferson 25 Feb 1886, for $500.25
Giles married first Adeline M. Cash, daughter of William Cash Jr. and Mary E. Holloway, on 7 Oct 1885 in Methodist Episcopal Church, Kuttawa, Lyon Co., Kentucky, with Rev. J. L. Edrington, officiating.11,12
His wife died on 22 Mar 1894.26
Giles married second Mary Dean Adamson, daughter of George Warner Adamson and Mary Louise Dean, on 28 Aug 1895 in Caldwell Co., Kentucky, at her father's home.13,12,14
Giles and Mary appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Kuttawa, Lyon Co., Kentucky, enumerated 20 Jun 1900, reporting that the family owned its farm, free of mortgage. His children by his previous marriage, Lucille, Mary and William, were listed as living with them, as were Charles and Fanny Crider, listed as a hired hand and servant, respectively, Thomas Pallard, a servant at age 6, and Eugene Crider, another hired hand. Apparently his brother Jefferson and his family lived nearby, as they are listed as the preceding household.27
He was a farmer in Kentucky.28,29
Giles and Mary moved to Carmen, Oklahoma, on 9 Apr 1905.6 They appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Carmen, Alfalfa Co., Oklahoma, at Fifteen St., enumerated 19 Apr 1910, reporting that the family owned its home, free of mortgage. His daughters by his prior marriage, Lucille and Mary, were listed as living with them.30
William Wallace Cobb, son of Giles' son William Francis, came to live with Giles and Mary at the age of three months, after the death of his mother. The child's father was working on a railroad, which required him to travel around Oklahoma, and he could not care for the infant. When the father remarried in 1914, Mary wanted to keep the baby and apparently the father and his new wife agreed to that, so the child was raised by his grandparents.31,32
Giles and Mary moved to San Antonio, Texas, for a time around 1920, but apparently returned to Carmen shortly afterwards.33 They appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of San Antonio, Bexar Co., Texas, at 815 Ave. D, enumerated 3 Jan 1920, reporting that they rented their home, apparently a unit in a four-family building. Their grandson, William, was listed as living with them.34
He reported his occupation as a laborer on gardens in 1910 in Oklahoma. He was a farmer in Texas.35,36
On 5 Apr 1923 Giles was granted a patent for 189 acres in Ochiltree Co., Texas, but the grant was actually issued to A. S. Parrish, indicating that he had purchased the rights before the grant was final.37
Giles died on 7 Aug 1923 in Pawnee, Oklahoma, at age 66, at the home of his daughter Lucille and her husband.15,16,17 He was buried on 9 Aug 1923 in Carmen Cemetery, Carmen, Alfalfa Co., Oklahoma, with his second wife.18
